Paris Hilton Arrested in Vegas on Cocaine Charges

Luck wasn't on Paris Hilton's side this weekend in Sin City, when Las Vegas police pulled over the car she was in just before midnight and allegedly found a white powder in her purse that, upon testing, proved to be cocaine. The celebutante was then arrested on suspicion of possessing cocaine, and booked into the Clark County detention center, according to ABC News. She was soon released on bail.

The socialite, 29, was in the passenger seat of a car driven by a male thought to be her boyfriend, nightclub owner Cy Waits. Why was Hilton pulled over near the Wynn Hotel and Casino in the first place? Las Vegas police spokesman Marcus Martin told the Associated Press cops thought they smelled marijuana coming from the car: "Officers noticed a vehicle leaving a smoke trail of a controlled substance [and] made a stop based on that." He added that a crowd gathered to witness the police stop after Hilton was recognized by passers-by.

According to TMZ, Hilton has hired "powerful Vegas lawyer" David Chesnoff (whose past clients include Suge Knight and Vince Neil) to handle her case. And despite the fact that Hilton was the only woman in the vehicle when authorities pulled it over, she is reportedly insisting that the purse wasn't hers.

Hilton's had a busy summer on both sides of the law. Just days ago, cops came to her Los Angeles residence to arrest a knife-weilding intruder on her property, who was allegedly attempting to break into her home. During the World Cup in July, she was questioned by police in South Africa on suspicion of marijuana charges, but soon released.

Earlier this month, she unveiled the Paris Hilton Shoe Collection at a convention center in Las Vegas.

Her parents need to disown her and make her get a real job and maybe she will straighten up. She is such a loser.

whether or not u like her, can someone please explain the staement on why they were pulled over in the first place... "Officers noticed a vehicle leaving a smoke trail of a controlled substance [and] made a stop based on that.. how large was the trail of smoke and if that large would it not have been difficult to see how to drive?? not to mention that much smoke someone would have had to have the munchies BAD... but how did they know the smoke trail was of a controlled substance... no pot was mentioned again after being pulled over only the cocaine.. sounds like the only smoke cloud was the arresting officers story

I'm almost willing to bet that all you people who are defending her are nothing but drug addicts yourselves. Or have something against the police who are doing their job. People under the influence and driving are dangering your life, my life and everyone else on the highway.

The police could smell the pot...read the story. They can search her and the car upon suspicion...smelling the pot is enough reason to search. At least I now know why you druggies get arrested...you keep killing your brain cells.

The heck with rehab. Throw her butt and all the other starletts in jail for a long time and keep them there. Jail will dry them out. Rehab is just another name for pamper.

Since "Princess" Paris Hilton has again gotten herself in trouble & this time over such a serious crime as cocaine possession maybe it's time that "Princess Paris" sends some real time in jail & see how it is to be treated like the real criminal & law breaker that she is. If any "normal/regular" American was in this type of trouble they'd be in jail in a minute so I THINK PARIS NEEDS TO SPEND TIME IN JAIL WITH OTHER CRIMINALS NOT SOME FANCY REHAB PLACE LIKE LINDSAY LOHAN WAS SENT TOO.

What A SURPRISE!!! This lost little girl, yes little girl because she has never grown up, is truly going to be a lost cause. She will get a slap on the wrist & maybe sent to a beautifull jail with awll to wall carpet a her doggies.
Her parents should be ashamed of themselves for letting her lget her life to spiral out of control.

What is truly sick is there are 100's of young Men and Women who do have inherited Wealth but spend it on Education, Charity and Family. Vanity Fair has done articles on these wonderful young Adults. They don't go for fame or partying but something far more worthy. Sad that her inherited wealth and time was spend in such an unworthy manner.

This young woman should wake up to the fact that she is being targeted. Her behavior has been noticed by authorities. She would be wise to stop using drugs and if it takes rehab, then do it. It doesn't sound like the police had a reason to stop and search her purse but they knew her record and used it against her. I wish the authorities would get after the dealers.
