While Jamie Lee Curtis won't discuss her 'Freaky Friday' co-star Lindsay Lohan's recent troubles, she was willing to open up about her own struggle with drug addiction during an interview with Meredith Vieira on NBC's 'Today' show.
"My recovery is the single greatest accomplishment of my life. And without that, the rest of my life would have fallen apart," Curtis, who appeared to promoted her new book, 'My Mommy Hung the Moon,' said.
When asked how she succeeded, the actress chalked it up to "the miracle of recovery." Watch:
"Some people get it. Robert Downey Jr. was in prison for a year. And he is not only the greatest movie star in the world, he's a fantastic representative of someone who can repair the damage of their life. Recovery is an acceptance that your life is in a shambles and you have to change it. I was lucky, I didn't have to lose anything," she explained.
"Recovery and motherhood are the two single greatest things in my life," Curtis added.
In the wake of Michael Jackson's death last year, Curtis admitted in a Huffington Post blog that she had once been addicted to painkillers.
"I too found painkillers after a routine cosmetic surgical procedure and I too became addicted, the morphine becomes the warm bath from which to escape painful reality. I was a lucky one. I was able to see that the pain had started long ago and far away and that the finding the narcotic was merely a matter of time," she wrote.
In an interview with More magazine (via The New York Daily News), the 'You Again' star revealed she became addicted to pills at the age of 35. "No one knew," she said of her troubles.
In the same interview, the 51-year-old revealed that she also drank to ease the "loneliness" she felt and that many of her issues were caused by the pressure to be young and thin in Hollywood.

I'm glad she recovered but.... where does she apologize to her children? Does she think they didn't know? Does she think they were not affected by her addiction? Was she the mother they deserved while she was loaded? The recover is great for her and for her chidren but theres more recovery to be done, I hope she's addressing that.
Whoa! A large part of revovery is making amends for misdeeds. Some things are more than saying I was sorry, they take living amends. We change the way we act, the way we treat people and the bad turns into a good life. You cant think your way into better living but you can live your way into better thinking. She has paid for her mistakes, and has a good life now to prove it. As far as pleasing you Irscm no one can make a miserable turd happy. The statute of limitations on her old life is over, please wish her well for all the good she does NOW. I would be proud to be her friend. After ten years of sobreity I can tell you it just keeps getting better.
Do you honestly think that she needs to share all of her personal life with the public? To al of you experts pointing fingers and voicing your words of so called wisdom........grow up and check your own lives and behavior. All too easy to point fingers at others.....I also think that it is so stupid to do so.,
To irscm, as an alcoholic with an addictive personality I too have been in a remissive state and recovery from the devastating behavior of abusing substances. I have been in a recovery program since 1993 and haven't used a non-prescribed chemical, including alcohol since 1999. Today my life is manageable and I give Jamie kudos for her journey however it was achieved. I will always be an addict but not a using one thanks to my choices today and AA / NA. There are other ways to achieve sobriety but this worked for me. I gave up nicotine, the most addictive substance known, three years this next January. In the program it is necessary to make amends to the best of our ability to those we have hurt so I am sure Jamie has done this, it is up to those hurt to accept the amends or not, we can't change our past we can just live for today and live life on life's terms. Hooray for Jamie, a survivor.
I have been sober now for 12 years. One thing that I realized was that my family was one of the biggest reasons I was drinking. I also came to realize that I needed to start caring about myself. I feel no need to apologize for being an alcoholic. It's like asking a person with diabetes to apologize for being a diabetic. In the end, my family respected me way more for standing up to them and for not being ashamed of my addiction.
Gee, LRSCM, thank God YOU weighed in!!!! Because let's face it, without your insight into how Jamie Lee Curtis should address her kids, she might never be able to repair those relationships!! Whew!! PS you're an idiot.
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos

Rattrap007,
Yogurt is healthier for your body, unlike pills. When was the last time someone died of an overdose of yogurt? ;)

why do you feel the need to cut her to pieces..ever think it was b4 she had the kids!
@magsmom She started using 16 years ago. Her kids are adults now. Figure it out. She's manly and her kids are adopted. Figure that out too.
What makes you think she hasn't?
Just by Jamie Lee being sober one day at a time means more than the words im sorry could ever fufill
You have no idea if she apologized to her kids or not, or if she even needed to...
Are we a bit angry about something Irs.
