Another 'Saturday Night Live' Cast Member Departs

On the heels of Will Forte's announcement that he'll be departing late-night sketch comedy show 'Saturday Night Live,' it's also been confirmed that Jenny Slate will not be returning this season, EW.com reports. Slate joined the cast in 2009 and made quite the splash when she dropped the F-word during her very first show. She played bit parts in sketches for the remainder of the 2009 season.

In addition to her 'SNL' work, Slate recently created and voiced a popular viral video, 'Marcel the Shell with Shoes On,' about a shy, shoe-loving snail. Prior to landing the 2009 'SNL' gig, Slate starred in a one-woman show, 'Jenny Slate: Dead Millionaire.'

Slate's departure is the latest in a slew of 'SNL' casting changes. After Forte's farewell announcement a couple weeks ago, EW also confirmed the show will be adding four new feature players to the cast: actor/comedian Taran Killam, Chicago-based comedians Paul Brittain and Vanessa Bayer and newcomer Jay Pharoah.

'SNL' will begin its 36th season on September 25: former cast member and current 'Parks and Recreation' star Amy Poehler will host and Katy Perry will be the musical guest.

Lorne Michaels can make as many casting changes as there are stars in the heavens;it still won't change the fact that this painfully unfunny dinosaur of a show needs to be put out of its misery and,in fact,should have been scrapped at least two decades earlier.

You are exactly right. It's painful to watch people TRYING to be funny, and the way they read cue cards ALL THE TIME shows how little talent any of them have. The show is crap.

What Lorne Michaels needs to be TRUE to the show, not be bullied by political Hollywood to Stop Making Fun Of "O". SNL in the first 4 or 5 shows, then petered out .... except of course for making fun of Palin and McCain. Just why is that??? SNL needs to start playing fair in their political incorrectness.

To be perfectly honest (not cruel) none of the newer female cast members have made mush of a mark. If wiig leaves they are really freaked.

The show will be funny again if it gets new writers. This probably means that something will have to happen to Lorne Michaels to loosen his grip.
If the show isn't losing money, it makes business sense to keep it going, until the time when it can be fixed.
Saturday night is a ratings wasteland anyway. Look at what the other networks have in the same time slot - reruns of CSI and other crime shows; low budget movies; junk, because the viewers aren't there.

It's always hilarious to see idiots slam SNL as if it's beneath them. WOW, you are just too cool aren't you. PUKE! Just because your too slow to get the jokes doesn't mean it should have been yanked off the air. Plenty of people do enjoy the show and think it's better now than it ever was. Wait a second, shouldn't you geezers be in bed by then anyway, don't they have lights out around 9PM at your retirement home????

Wow you must have the worse sense of humor ever. I always forget this is still on tv. Im a 34 year old geezer I guess. The show hasnt been funny in years. the writing has been bad for at least 15 years and the new casts have ben horrid. MadTv was a much better show and it ran its course. nothing about SNL is funny at all well maybe to fun loving amish and mormons but to everyone else its obviously a show that should have been removed years ago. You must be the life of the party if you think its better then ever. Not one memorable name or sketch on the show.

The cast of SNL is made up of actors who are only as funny as the material that is written for them. That writing has gotten progressively worse over the years, so I can't blame the cast. Every skit is a game show or talk show, and some are so painful to watch that I find myself reaching for the remote within minutes. I keep giving SNL another chance, hoping that things will turn around, but it doesn't look like that will ever happen.
