James Franco: I'm Not Gay and Don't Smoke Pot

James Franco is such a tease, but in the October 2010 issue of The Advocate, the 32-year-old actor sets the record straight about his sexuality and whether or not he smokes marijuana.

"Sure, I'd tell you if I was [gay]," he admits. "I guess the reason I wouldn't is because I'd be worried that it would hurt my career. I suppose that's the reason one wouldn't do that, right? But no, that wouldn't be something that would deter me. I'm going to do projects that I want to do."

Although he loves playing a gay man on the big screen, he's only doing it for the challenge and a paycheck. But people's preconceived notions get in the way of reality. "Everyone thinks I'm a stoner, and some people think I'm gay because I've played these gay roles. That's what people think, but it's not true. I don't smoke pot. I'm not gay..." he rattles off.

On why he chooses to portray gay characters: "In this history of cinema, there are so many heterosexual love stories. It's so hammered, so done. It's just not that interesting to me. It's more interesting to me to play roles and relationships that haven't been portrayed as often."

On how nothing would stop him from taking the role in 'Howl': "You want to know what my agents did try to talk me out of? General Hospital. They didn't think me acting in a soap opera was the greatest idea. But they know that I've always wanted to do a movie about the Beats, so no one tried to stop me from playing Allen Ginsberg."

EGGHEAD LOL You people need to get over it. I am not gay myself but I just can't believe how some of you act. As long as they leave you alone chill out. You probably aren't their type anyway. We all gotta start getting along and leaving others alone even if we don't agree with their lives or how they live them. As long as no one is getting hurt physically, whats the problem.

He was great in a movie called "Sonny". He plays the lead role as a male prostitute who services middle aged women. The movie was Nicholas Cage's directorial debut. I used to think he was just an o.k. actor until I saw this film. The kid's got talent. Definatley his best work to date even though it's an old movie.

Less than 10% of the population is Gay. He's not Gay but I think they chose straight actor's to play Gay character's because straight actors look more main stream. People often don't like the looks of most Gay men. They look too weird and they want people to have a positive feeling about Gays. Hollywood has an agenda.

James Franco , of course is going to be targeted by negativity because he is a good actor and is famous. There are tons of jealous people who have nothing better to do then question others' sexuality and talent.....as if that truly matters? Obviously there's talent or he'd be a has been...and as far as sexuality?.....who cares? It's not like any of us are going to get the chance to "be" with him. He in an entertainment industry doing what he's paid to do. His private life should remain private. The rest of the gossip spreaders should find a life of their own and maybe make something of it.
