Aretha Franklin: Halle Berry Should Play Me in Biopic

The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, has some pretty strong opinions when it comes to who should portray her in an upcoming biopic film. In Franklin's mind, only Halle Berry has what it takes to portray the younger version of the singing legend, according to the Associated Press.

Earlier this week, Franklin sent out a press release detailing her specific choices for the prominent roles in the film. In addition to Berry, she wants Denzel Washington to play her father C.L. Franklin, a civil rights leader and Baptist minister. And she would love Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard to portray Motown star Smokey Robinson.

In her press release, Franklin, 68, says the actors she names are "enthusiastic about the project and have agreed to take on these roles, subject to further negotiation."

The planned biopic will be based on Franklin's autobiography, 'Aretha: From These Roots,' which hit the bestseller list 10 years ago when it was published. The iconic singer says she'll begin reviewing scripts next week.

Franklin's biggest hits include '(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,' 'Chain of Fools,' 'Freeway of Love' and her signature song, 'Respect.'

That was my thought, but you were kind in the number! Halle Berry would never add 100-150 pounds to her small frame. Has Aretha lost her mind? She should be more realistic. She has never been beautiful nor slender, except maybe in her own mind.

Aretha WAS smaller for ONE YEAR in the 70's. Other than that year Aretha has been 50-75 pounds overweight (60's) 75-100 pounds overweight (70's ... except 1 year) 100-150 pounds overweight (80s 90's) and 150-200 pounds overweight. The 60's rumor went that Berry Gordy wouldnt bring Aretha into MOTOWN because he feared she would crush little blind Stevie Wonder and eat Diana Ross and the Supremes. OPRAH would have to gain 50-100 pounds to play Aretha at her current weight and Halle would have to put on 100-150 pounds to play Oprah ... Halle isnt going to gain 250 pounds. Aretha should look to the HUMONGOUS FAT Girl that starred in Precious (although that ton o' lard is 500 plus)

Halle Berry is much too old for a young Aretha! Would Halle be willing to pack on the pounds to play the young Queen of Soul? Halle had the acting chops to play Dorothy Dandridge, so maybe she could pull it off. I don't think so. How 'bout Jennifer Hudson, although that might spoil her endorsement deal w/Weight Watchers, unless the weight gain would be excused for this role. Anybody else wanna weigh in on this one?!
