The MTV VMAs needed a highlight and got one thanks to a flashback outfit from pop legend Cher that gave way to a preview of great things to come from a pop legend in the making, Lady Gaga.
First, Cher showed that she's still got the curves. Over twenty years after the release of her 1989 hit 'If I Could Turn Back Time,' Cher put on the revealing one piece that she wore on the battleship during the controversial clip in order to present Video of the Year.
"I'm the oldest chick with the biggest hair in the littlest costume," said Cher to massive applause.
"Back in the day, I used to get thrown off MTV for wearing things like this that seem so tame now. That's when Lady Gaga was Baby Gaga."
Cher's video, with the notorious fishnet outfit, was banned from airing during daylight hours by MTV. Cher was right in that it's an outfit that doesn't have anywhere near the same shock value today. Gaga revealed more in her 'Telephone' video.
"I have shoes older than most of these nominees," she concluded before presenting Lady Gaga with the Video of the Year award for 'Bad Romance.' Gaga then turned her speech into a great coming attraction for her forthcoming album.

I want to say that at least she can sing, there are so many 'artists' out there that can't even hold a note. I know there are lots of Lady Gaga haters, but you can't say she can't sing. And if you do, you're just doing what you do best--hating.

Cher is incredible and simply amazes me. She has always been an unstoppable woman and what a trail she blazed and precedent she has set for other female entertainers to follow. I love it when she makes an appearance anywhere.

Totally agree, I love Cher and she looks fantastic! Lady Gaga is kinda nasty and I don't care for her music, though I must say she has talent.

I love Cher; however, I think she just refuses to grow old gracefully. I still remember the first time I saw her on TV. She was barely sixteen and married to Sonny Bono, I think. Like I already said, I still love Cher.

Cher still looks good!!!!! Most women would kill to look as good as her at 30 as she does at her age. I know if I had it, I would flaunt it. That's what being a STAR is all about. Lady GaGa is dinomite, too! She's got a great voice and is excentric enough to keep it going.
Why should Cher "grow old gracefully" when she's in an industry in which nobody has to? Not saying it's right, just saying it's the way it is.
As for Lady Gag, her fans can have her. Her ridiculous costumes and overstaging exist only to distract from the fact that she's a marginal "talent" at best. No, I don't hate; I just don't get most of today's "singers".
Cher is growing old as gracefully as anyone can. It's not fun getting old especially in show business where they expect that same young face that made millions years ago. I'm impressed that Cher still fits in that 1989 outfit. How many people can pull out something from their closet that's 21 years old and still be able to wear it???
Cher is like 60 years old. There's no way she looks like she does without plastic surgery. How is that considered growing old gracefully? And do you really think she just hopped into that 1989 outfit without some amount of alteration? No wonder the drag queens love this woman when she herself looks like a drag queen.

The outfit she wore at the VMA's is not the outfit she wore on the navy ship back in the eighties.. No matter how much we dislike it, after 50 our bodies change, doesn't have to be weight gain or loss or anything like that, our bodies JUST CHANGE.. There is NO WAY she could get into the eighties outfit.. She wears this one at her Vegas shows which is a replica of the eighties one.. I still think she looks great..
