John Mayer Deletes His Twitter Account

Singer-songwriter -- and frequent Twitter user -- John Mayer has decided to quit Twitter, the Associated Press reports. The musician had more than 3.7 million followers when he signed off for the last time.

The departure comes three days after Mayer tweeted, "Self Portrait of The Artist Three Days Before His Metaphoric Retirement," along with a black and white photo of himself.

When asked for comment, his spokeswoman said he had discontinued his account with the micro-blogging service because his Battle Studies Tour is "now at a close and a return to the studio planned." Mayer plans to stay in contact with his fans through his blog.

Mayer was an active user of Twitter, and it comes as a shock to many that he's closing his account. In the past, he's routinely used the service to clear up false rumors and clarify comments he's made to the press. (Remember his infamous Playboy interview and subsequent Twitter tirade?) He also used his account to invite University of South Carolina students to a free concert earlier this year.

Mayer is the latest of a growing group of celebrities taking a break from Twitter. Over the past few months, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and LeAnn Rimes have all said goodbye to their followers -- though Rimes joined again within a week.

It's odd that people are dumping Twitter, but everybody seems to be embracing Facebook which I think is evil. They want too much of your personal info. I always liked MySpace, but it's not "in" anymore.

i dont think ahyone should use twitter or facebook...way too much information on those sites...who cares that your @ work, or on a bus? i really dont care what your cooking for breakfast-or that youre pissed @ your boyfriend...and its a real good way for the bad people in this world to track down & potentially harm the innocent good people...it is all way too invasive...privacy should be protected at any cost...twitter & facebook rapes you of your privacy...keep your persoanl business OFF the internet--robbers are probably having a field day with these sites--people give out way too much information-everyday/all the time--i'll be on vacation on these dates-im working-at this time-i wont be home until this time..truly rediculous....

I don't think people should use twitter or facebook because it makes their spelling and grammar as awful as yours. Are you 13 years old? Because if you're an adult then that is really sad. No wonder your children are so stupid, half the parents are morons.
