Kanye West Toasts Himself at VMAs With New Song, 'Runaway'

Dressed in red and feeling feisty, Kanye West brushed off a smattering of boos in the audience and performed his non-answer to Taylor Swift's song about him at the MTV VMAs on Sunday. He didn't exactly address last year's incident, when he infamously interrupted Swift's acceptance speech to proclaim her video wasn't as good as one by Beyonce. Instead, with the new song 'Runaway,' West targeted himself and his trademark jerk-ish behavior.

"I always find something wrong / You've been putting up with my s**t for too long," he sang, before launching into a chorus that included the lines: "Let's have a toast to the douchebags / Let's have a toast to the a**holes." WATCH:

West took the stage at the end of the night, after Swift performed her own song. That one, 'Still an Innocent,' was actually about West, though it was not an attack on him.

Swift's song is being described as an olive branch to her former nemesis. "Everyone of us has messed up, too ... I hope you remember today is never too late to be brand new."

The 20-year-old's song, which began with a video montage of last year's debacle, came off more like a lecture than a lashing.

"Thirty-two and still growing up now / Who you are is not what you did," she sang both seriously and softly, adding: "You're still an innocent."

Their equally emotional performances seemed to provide resolution to the incident, while overshadowing the show's other moments, including Lady Gaga's eight VMA wins.

I was listening to an interview by a country star a while back & he was talking about the show "Glee" (I like it though)
His statement was that is was tough for a real singer in the business today because with electronic enhancement he called "autotune"......he said anybody with even a thread of talent can sound like a superstar....guess alot of live concerts must have gone the Milli Vanilli way.......

Those bands you mentioned are legends...40+ years later, 2 generations later, those bands are still rocking. Whether you grew up listening to them, or have never seen them in concert, or your parents listened to them and you grew to love them like I do, you know what I am talking about.

How many of the singers on the VMAs last night will be heard of in 10 years?

The Who, The Stones, The Beatles...they are still rockin 40+ years later.

The VMA's were terrible. No talent was there. Just would love to hear someone sing for once! Songs were drab and depressing. Makes me long for real performers like Michael J and Cher, etc.
By the end of the show I had a headache. Stop already with the techno crap! What a waste of time.

I think you are living in the past..." My reply: And isn't flaming someone for "living in the past" just as bad as someone else flaming someone for liking today's music? No, I won't dismiss every current musical act (although I'm forced to admit much of what is played today isn't my tastes, and I do wonder how much payola was involved, but then again I've wondered that about some performers from 20 or 30 years ago too) but being what you apparently consider to be "old" or "the past" isn't bad either. Might I suggest you look in the mirror and not automatically dismiss anything that wasn't made in the last year or two, let alone something from the 60's or 70's? Maybe you can actually have an epiphany then.

You hit the nail on the head!! Music died a long time ago. None of these acts today will be around in a year or two, let alone 30 years from now like the Stones and the Who!! I don't even both listening to the radio anymore!!

I so agree with you but even more so that most of these people have no real talent. We have to get back to when musicians were musicians. No more changing voices, lip-syncing, pretty boys. We need actual talents. That's the reason he made such a fool of himself.

West is PATHETIC! That he was invited back to the VMA Awards show WHICH STUNK BY THE WAY. He is the douche bag and the A@@Hole. Anyone that buys HIS GARBAGE CALLED MUSIC is just feeding into this clown. This was the absolutely WORST AWARDS SHOW I EVER SAW IN MY LIFE. If this is music, man I'm OLD SCHOOL. Nothing but nothing was good in this. Handler was really BAD. It was like being a the circus as a kid.
