Kanye West Toasts Himself at VMAs With New Song, 'Runaway'

Dressed in red and feeling feisty,
Kanye West brushed off a smattering of boos in the audience and performed his non-answer to
Taylor Swift's song about him at the MTV VMAs on Sunday. He didn't exactly address last year's incident, when he infamously interrupted Swift's acceptance speech to proclaim her video wasn't as good as one by Beyonce. Instead, with the new song 'Runaway,' West targeted himself and his trademark jerk-ish behavior.
"I always find something wrong / You've been putting up with my s**t for too long," he sang, before launching into a chorus that included the lines: "Let's have a toast to the douchebags / Let's have a toast to the a**holes." WATCH:
West took the stage at the end of the night, after Swift performed her own song. That one, 'Still an Innocent,' was actually about West, though it was not an attack on him.
Swift's song is being described as an olive branch to her former nemesis. "Everyone of us has messed up, too ... I hope you remember today is never too late to be brand new."
The 20-year-old's song, which began with a video montage of last year's debacle, came off more like a lecture than a lashing.
"Thirty-two and still growing up now / Who you are is not what you did," she sang both seriously and softly, adding: "You're still an innocent."
Their equally emotional performances seemed to provide resolution to the incident, while overshadowing the show's other moments, including Lady Gaga's eight VMA wins.

I don't have the stomach to watch awards shows where any idiot can get on stage and make a bigger idiot of himself. I can't believe that someone somewhere made the decision to let West even appear at the awards to even sit in the audience, much less to get on the stage. He's such an ignorant, rude, crude, vulgar excuse for a human being and reading this article about the words he considers "lyrics" is just too stupid. Check out all the gold chains. Who's he trying to be anyway, Mr. "T"? Guys wearing their shirts open to their navels and all those gold chains is soooo 1970's and tasteless. Can't we just forget that he even exists? He should be shunned from the business they call the music business because what he does is not music -- it's just bullsh**.

The VMA's were a disgrace, as usual. They haven't put on a good music awards show since the '80's. 98% of the performers are either without talent, or total trash...the 'host' was disgusting; and all the hub bub about that self important piece of garbage, Kanye West, is offensive to people with actual taste and intelligence. I guess it's time for me to switch to country music, because at least they look like normal people and, more importantly, still honor the true talent of the older performers instead of brushing them aside to make room for what a bunch of too-easily impressed teeny boppers think is cool. That debacle last night was the last time we'll waste two hours of our lives watching the VMA's. As much as we love him, not even Eminem will lure us back to that pahetic excuse for a music awards show.

I thought I had read something that he was going to improve himself to be a better person and that the person he was then was because he had gone through a lot of crap and mourning of the loss of his mother. He said was going to be better, well that song last night certainly did not prove that he was a new person. I guess being contreversial is the only way he can get attention. As for Taylor Swift, she did not even need to do a song at all to prove anything or even send a message to him. The only thing I think was good about the VMA's was the stage, special effects and so on.

I didn't watch the awards show because with the exception of
Taylor and and one or two more there was nothing but trash to watch. When I heard Gaga (I cannot call her a lady) was up for all of those award and even Kanye was up for an award I didn't want to waste my time. I realized these awards were not going to be given for talent but for prevocative dress and ugly langusge. I bet Parez Hilton was one of the people to help decide who would be nominated for an award. Gaga looks so much like a drag person she would probably be one of his choices and he would probably love Kenye's lack of intelligence.I did want to hear Taylor's song to butthead but I didn't want to have to see the other people who's claim to fame is gaudy costumes and prevocative movement, and Kenye's horrible attitude and filthy language. He is so stupid that he doesn't have enough words in his vocabulary to express himself with out using vulgarity. So I had to miss Taylors song. According to reports, Kanye's song was still mostly about how poor pitiful me has been mistreated. And Cher!!!!!! Oh my gosh!!!!!! An old woman dressed like a S**T. She looks like a prostitute in the pictures I've seen of her today.

What an absolute talentless loser Kanye is. If you actually listen to the lyrics, he is using this "song" (I use the word very loosely) as a guise to mock the people that criticize him. Is Kanye tone deaf? His rapping was all over the place. He continues to act like a defiant child because society allows him to - people with no taste continue to buy his "music" (another loose terminology). Give it up Kanye, go back to the rathole from which you came - loser.

Caught that too. lol
Am I getting old, or is today's "entertainment" more about attitude and less about talent? Kanye, folks, is not a talented performer. Self-promoting, yes. Strutting self-love, yes. But not talented.

I think you are living in the past. This was the VMAs, not Sturgis. Here is an idea: don't watch MTV, but instead, listen to real rock radio with the other members of the lions club.
my Response Hell yes there are similarities, The people played musical instuments and had TALENT!!What the hell is a "Kanye" Anyway? And as far as me being an"old white man", you are partially right ,I am old enough to know what real, great music is.What was shown on the VMAs doesnt qualify.

Kanye is a tool. He should be forced to watch Beyonce's music video that he proclaimed to be the "BEST OF ALL TIME' for a month. Was he kidding?

I wonder if he was kidding too. Either that or he was drunk. I figure watching B shake her groove thing for 3 minutes gave him a hard d**k like he never had before so for him that made it the best video ever. That's all they did was shake their a***s in that video. I didn't like it even though I liked the song OK. But, if you want a hard ** and I don't, it's the ticket. I can think of a thousand videos that are better and much more creative. It was about as creative as orange juice and toast.
