Lady Gaga Explains Why She's Been Wearing Meat

Following her triumph at the MTV VMAs, Lady Gaga sat down with Ellen DeGeneres and revealed the reasoning behind her latest clothing fabric of choice. Yes, we're talking about the meat and the now notorious meat dress. The positively squeamish DeGeneres, who is vegan, prefaced by saying, "I get most of your outfits," just not this one.

"It's certainly no disrespect to anyone that's vegan or vegetarian," Gaga told the host. "As you know I'm the most judgment-free human being on the Earth. It has many interpretations, but for me this evening it's [saying] if we don't stand up for what we believe in, if we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones."

Aaaaaaaah.

She then dished up a second interpretation, saying it's meant to say that she's "not a piece of meat."

DeGeneres then offered an alternative to flesh by presenting Lady Gaga with a bikini and skirt made of vegetables.

Gaga wore the "meat dress," by Franc Fernandez, while accepting the award Video of the Year. Cher, another singer known for eccentric style, presented the trophy to her. The situation offered up one of the funniest lines of the night when Gaga told the audience, "I never thought I'd be asking Cher to hold my meat purse."

....the meat dress is about saying you're not a piece of meat?.....isn't that like telling people you're anti-semitic while wearing a Hitler costume? Seems backwards.

What about those dead animals' rights? How about standing up for the rights of those who have no voice/choice? This woman is not only non-talented, she's disgusting. The only reason she gets so much attention is because she's way-out-there weird, and people just want to see how she can top her last fashion wreck.

The sad thing is, all that food wasted as an outfit when it could have been used to feed some of the homeless and starving right in the very city she is famous in. Nevertheless, what a waste for 'art' and is just as bad as donning authentic animal pelts.

In this kind of economy, what a way to rub in your wealth as well over less fortunate. Sickening.

I have to agree that if you do not like her, turn the TV Off!
She has a talent, if you listened to her last night, she has a VOICE! You try acapella in front of a whole audience of entertainers. She carried every note perfect! With PROJECTION!
Now is she what we want her to be. No! It would be nice if somebody was a LADY not a tramp! Look at Madonna she's a tramp.
She had a chance to be a Lady and took the low road. I mean we all stop using the F#@##K word for shock in the 7th grade.
Anyway there are some real Lady's out there but mostly in the Country Western group!

Nah. We totally should bring back some of those cookie cutter artists from the 80's and 90's making bubblegum pop that everyone hates. She wants attention, and guess what, YOU hating fanbabies are giving it to her.

whoa whoa whoa, lady gaga has more talent than any other singer these days, here crazy outfits are a relief to all the boring same dresses, you never know what shes going to wear next. She deserves more credit. She is a great role model because she knows that everyone is different and unique in their own way, and that is something to respect

Music and fashions to me is just a form of art. She hires artists to make her stage costumes; she just loves to express herself through art which is not illegal and doesn't hurt anybody. I am sure her costumes were made of fake meat and fake vegetables.
