We'll Do It Taped! MTV Didn't Want a Live Lindsay

Further proving Hollywood executives still have a long way to go before they trust Lindsay Lohan again, sources tell me the only way producers would allow the rehabbed star to participate in this year's VMAs was if she agreed to tape her segment rather than perform live like most of the other skits.

"Lindsay knows she has a ways to go before she gains back the trust of everyone," a friend of the troubled actress tells me. "But she's just grateful to be getting these offers again."

I know it's hard to fathom, but there was actually a time when Lindsay was being offered presenting gig after presenting gig for A-list awards shows. Been a while, right?

"Now, she's just grateful to be asked back even if she has to tape her performance," my source reveals.

Lindsay's surprise appearance made fun of her recent struggles in a pre-taped segment with cheeky host Chelsea Handler. "Hello Chelsea," Lindsay said. "Have you been drinking?"

"No," Handler replied, before Lindsay asked, "Then why is your ankle bracelet going off."

Lindsay, who is actually back in New York celebrating her mom Dina's birthday on Wednesday, watched the show with her family. Sources tell me she thought it was funny and understands, givien her past behavior, why the producer insisted she tape it in advance. WATCH:

LMAO @ MTV policing celebrity behavior. They are part of the problem. Look at the skit itself. It was a joke on Lohan's resent troubles. It is obvious that she still thinks that it is all a joke.

You know what? LiLo is young and she has not had the best role models for parents. I can't imagine how it must feel as a young child star to be famous - everyone wanting a piece of you. Geez she really never got to be a kid much less a teenager - poor thing. So yes she has made mistakes - albeit stupid ones, but don't write her off. If she wants to get better she will - the best thing she could do would be to get out of the spotlight for awhile. Give the girl a break!

why even let her on the VMA in the first place???????????? crack head just gets out of rehab and gets gigs handed to her on a silver platter. like thats really going to help her?? NOT !! Good luck Lins, when you kill someone while drunk driving.... I cant believe they put that B***H on the air this soon. Made me wanna toss my lunch when i saw her. she must be doing "something" extra curricular. and as far tohse who wanna say ohhh shes just trying to regain her life again, till when ? the next binge?? same for the iron man star whatever his face is. Did any of you stop to think that maybe MTV was also sparing her feelings? No one knew how the audience would react to her. When you have people cheering for Kanye "hey, everyone look at me" West, there's no telling how they would act when Lindsay took the stage. Cut her some slack, she was just doing what most celebrities do, she just got caught. If we don't believe someone can change, there's no hope for the world.

Too Funny! Did the spoil brat actually think everyone forgot what she has done? Did she think everyone will bow down to her like the shorter jail sentence and shorter rehab? Glad this happened to her!!

Aren't all the intros to VMAs pre-taped?

People, it wasn't taped because of Lindsay!! It was taped because that's the way MTV has put these shows together for years.

They almost always pre-tape that section of the show. Nothing new about that at all.

As for what they had her do-does anyone recall Paul Reubans presenting on the show after his arrest? He said something like 'heard anything funny?'(can't recall exactly what he said)
It is nothing new about doing this to attempt to have damage control on a celebrity who has a blemished reputation.

You got to be kidding me, there are actors and actresses out there that have done far worst then she has and it destroy there career, it made it advance. Robert Downey Jr was busted many times for drugs . Nobodies giving him gave him a black ball card. The media wants this lovely young lady to fall, because hollywood has its favorits. Some people are allowed to get drunk and act crazy while others they just want to see go away.

Seems to me that nowadays anyone can do anything and then just make a big joke out of it. This girl had a serious problem, still does..she is an addict, not so funny. He should lay low, solve her problems and stop trying to be in the news all the time. It sends a real false message to the teenagers watching...that you can do anything, and it will all be fine? Also WTH was with that stupid sone Kanye sang, ashole, douche bag, what kind of stupid song was that, was this his apology for being an idiot? THis show has gone to hell over the last few years. Not too much talent.

why does everyone care so much about lindsay? the intro was funny and good for her that she can make fun of herself.

She made some serious errors in judgment but I believe she can get her life back on track and her career. All she has to do is stay sober and keep workin the program.

Lindsay is the bomb I would be partying as much as her if not more if i were in her spot. If you follow any girls in their 20s around with a camera you would be shocked at what they were doing. Lindsay is only getting picked on cause shes famous. Dont Hate. She will change when she is ready. Let her be young and crazy thats how we learn and grow. Stop being so judgmental cause you've probably done worse.

I thought the skit was funny and light-hearted. It's nice to see she's kept her sense of humor. Now lets hope that Chelsea will have her on as a guest on her show. I think she'd be a great interview.
