Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem Are Having a Baby

Penelope Cruz has confirmed she is pregnant with her first child, putting an end to rumors fueled this week by a photo showing off the star's growing belly.

The actress, who recently married 'Eat Pray Love' actor Javier Bardem, is four-and-a-half months pregnant, reps for the pair confirmed to PEOPLE.

Cruz and Bardem did their best to hide the news, but speculation of a pregnancy intensified when during a visit to Los Angeles, she was seen wearing a trench coat that hid her figure.

Then this week, a photo emerged from the set of the latest 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movie where she sports a pretty clear baby bump.

In July, a rep for the 36-year-old actress denied reports she was pregnant.

Cruz, who is currently filming 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,' the fourth installment in the blockbuster franchise, wed Bardem in early July at a friend's home in the Bahamas in a private ceremony.

The couple, who starred as former lovers in Woody Allen's 2008 film 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona,' for which Cruz won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar, began their relationship in 2007 after 15 years of friendship.

I always wonder why Hollywood people deny pregnancies - who cares if they are pregnant? It is not like the world is revolving around them or their offspring. Unless there is something truly sensational about it - like they mated with an alien or something. Baby bumps? Big freaking deal.

It might be because if things go wrong with a pregnancy such as a miscarriage, it usually happens in the first trimester, which is why many women don't want to announce their pregnancies until they are in their fourth month. For stars, they face the cruelty of the "press" so why would a nervous first time pregnant mom want to give them "fuel" for their fires and be hounded to death by the papparazzis? Congrats to Penelope on getting past the first three months and continuing to head towards delivering a healthy beautiful baby!

that's true now a days but miscarriages can happen in the second trimester also just look at Joanne Woodward for example her first pregnancy ended at about the same point as Penn's is now. granted in the 50's when it happened to her an oscar nomination/win could buy the privacy needed to grieve and studios baught off the press to keep those kind of things quiet of course she still had to deal with the paparazzi at the premiere of the film on which the child had been conceived and the red carpet on oscar night later that month when she won.

not that Penelope is in the same League as Ms Woodward not by a long shot. times have changed quite a bit since then.
