LeAnn Rimes Talks About Affair With Eddie Cibrian

LeAnn Rimes knows she didn't handle the end of her marriage to Dean Sheremet very well--and she reveals why in the October issue of Shape magazine. Rimes, who graces the Shape cover in a red string bikini, opens up about the end of her marriage and what she's learned.

"I understand why people are disappointed in me, especially since I grew up as America's sweetheart. I think any relationship is hard to get out of, and I don't think the way I did it was right," she reveals.

"It wasn't a fulfilling marriage for either of us," she tells the magazine. "As we got older, we grew apart."

Rimes and Sheremet's marriage began to fully unravel amidst rumors she was secretly dating actor Eddie Cibrian, who was also married.

Back in 2009, Cibrian tried to fight back against claims that he was having an affair with Rimes after they were caught on film from the restaurant's security cameras. The images show the pair kissing during a date at a Laguna Beach, California restaurant.

Later Rimes admitted she and Cibrian became friends while shooting the made-for-TV movie 'Northern Lights,' and it wasn't until many months later that their relationship "tipped over."

"It was very emotionally driven," Rimes told PEOPLE in June. "I never once thought what I was doing was okay."

Sheremet and Rimes attempted to fix their marriage after news of her affair broke, but the pair finally concluded, "It wasn't a marriage that fulfilled either one of us." Rimes and Sheremet ended their 7-year marriage and the divorce was finalized in December 2009.

Cibrian was also married at the time; he and model Brandi Glanville married in 2002 and have two sons together. They too filed for divorce last year.

"I take responsibility for everything I've done," LeAnn told PEOPLE. "I hate that people got hurt. But I don't regret the outcome.

Rimes and Cibrian are currently in a committed relationship and currently live together in Los Angeles.

"I feel like I'm just now finding myself," Rimes continued. "I've always been one of those people who takes care of everyone else--and their needs--first. This past year, for the first time ever, I put me first. I'm sure some people are thinking that I was totally selfish, but the truth is, there are times in your life when you have to be selfish in order to find out what truly makes you happy."

Though the infidelity drama is in her past, she realizes "there are lessons in it for me to learn" and that the "most important thing" is "cultivating strength from rough situations." As she tells Shape, "After going through this, I know I can face anything."

She's not by any means sincere........Once a tramp always a tramp......Edddie will trade her in pretty soon if he hasn't already.....however he still needs a place to stay, so I guess he'll hang out for awhile.....UNTIL she's away.....then he's a gonna party with ALL the other tramps....Leann can be sure of that....

"As we get older we grow apart" "I feel like I'm just now finding myself" EXCUSES....how long were you married Lianne...a year - two... maybe threee.....get real woman....how far apart could you have grown? As for finding yourself....just an excuse people use to ease the guilt....GROW UP honey...admit it..you found someone you liked just a little bit better...

Did you read the article? Can you read? They were married for seven years. The marriage sucked and she wanted out. She says she knows she didn't handle the leaving part very well but she's happy now. Happens every day. Who are you to judge?

I understand that she and Cibrian qualify as bona fide celebrities, but these people do not warrant the endless amount of attention that this story has garnered in the last year. Husbands leaving wives and vice versa is not news as it happens every day given that most have no particular talent for picking a mate, but these are clearly two very selfish people who handled their respective situations abysmally. With that said Rimes really, really needs to stop addressing the issue publicly so that perhaps it can finally die in the media as her repeated explanations are lame and inadequate at best, shamefully self-serving and the whole thing is just tiresome at this point. People should stop blogging about these two and their shady union even if Rimes is too dense to leave it alone herself.

Yea...for you for once being selfish! However, you're being selfish took children from their father. Whether you want to admit it or not that can't be healed on their part..because their daddy isn't living with them anymore. Summers, weekends & whatever isn't daddy living at home.

I'm not for cheating on your husband/wife. But it's seems to me that whenever there is a store about LeAnn/Eddie everybody gangs up on LeAnn. At the time they (LeAnn/Eddie) they were both married to other people. So wouldn't he be just as much as in the wrong as she was? If Eddie were that happy in his with his wife would he have cheated on her? If LeAnn were happy with her husband would she have cheating on him? Nobody can make somebody else cheat on their husband/wife.

So if people are gonna call LeAnn a sl*t or homewreaker shouldn't they be calling Eddie one to?

People: Life happens; People screw-up. None of us can know the full scope of the situation because we are not in their shoes. Non-celebrities have affairs. Why should we expect celebrities to be any different. I feel sorry for both former spouses, but Rimes and Cibrian do have a right to live the life they want. We are not the marriage police. Everyone experiences pain and loss. Stop making celebrities superhuman; they have money, but they are the same as the rest of us.

I'm sorry, I really don't care for Leanne. But that's my feeling. She reminds me of Miss Piggy. When she smiles and has no eyes and her nose turns into a snout. Than she cheats on her husband. Anyone who cheats on their spouse is sh+t in my book. But remember, these are MY feelings.

So you and your husband were in a loveless marriage after awhile...it happens. But if you know that it's over, why don't you do something about it? Like maybe, get a divorce? Don't cheat on the guy with some two-bit has-been. And I really feel bad for Eddie's wife, who had no idea he was shacking up with her.

I NEVER PAID ANY ATTENTION TO HER!I flirted with her best friends,called her fat until she starved,then said she was too skinny.I called her ugly and told her her friends were WAAY better looking,just to be a prick,I thought it was FUNNY.All we did was fight,everyday,for almost 10 years,so loud the neighbors could hear!And one day,she got up and found someone else.I didn't realize what I had until it was gone,but hey..it was because of MEEEE!

TRASH IS TRASH AND ONCE A CHEATER ALWAYS A CHEATER. Since they cheated on their now ex-spouses once, they will do it again. I am so glad he is getting axed from CSI Miami, I didn't know that. I had already taken the show off my recording because I didn't want to watch him at all once I learned he had abandoned his children.

I have news for her, she's NEVER been America's Sweetheart (as she stated) AND the vows don't read "good only until I no longer feel fulfilled" She's such a nobody but thinks she's hot stuff. I've never really liked her and like her even less now that I know how little value she puts on the vows of marriage.

Great, that is all we need, another role model for kids that can justify everything they do wrong as being ok. Once a cheater, always a cheater. What makes this Eddie Cibrian idiot think she won't cheat on him? They were both married when they cheated on each other. Can a cheater trust a cheater? I am sure they can justify that to. Maybe they both need to stop pointing the finger at someone else and figure out they created their own problems.
