LeAnn Rimes Talks About Affair With Eddie Cibrian

LeAnn Rimes knows she didn't handle the end of her marriage to Dean Sheremet very well--and she reveals why in the October issue of Shape magazine. Rimes, who graces the Shape cover in a red string bikini, opens up about the end of her marriage and what she's learned.

"I understand why people are disappointed in me, especially since I grew up as America's sweetheart. I think any relationship is hard to get out of, and I don't think the way I did it was right," she reveals.

"It wasn't a fulfilling marriage for either of us," she tells the magazine. "As we got older, we grew apart."

Rimes and Sheremet's marriage began to fully unravel amidst rumors she was secretly dating actor Eddie Cibrian, who was also married.

Back in 2009, Cibrian tried to fight back against claims that he was having an affair with Rimes after they were caught on film from the restaurant's security cameras. The images show the pair kissing during a date at a Laguna Beach, California restaurant.

Later Rimes admitted she and Cibrian became friends while shooting the made-for-TV movie 'Northern Lights,' and it wasn't until many months later that their relationship "tipped over."

"It was very emotionally driven," Rimes told PEOPLE in June. "I never once thought what I was doing was okay."

Sheremet and Rimes attempted to fix their marriage after news of her affair broke, but the pair finally concluded, "It wasn't a marriage that fulfilled either one of us." Rimes and Sheremet ended their 7-year marriage and the divorce was finalized in December 2009.

Cibrian was also married at the time; he and model Brandi Glanville married in 2002 and have two sons together. They too filed for divorce last year.

"I take responsibility for everything I've done," LeAnn told PEOPLE. "I hate that people got hurt. But I don't regret the outcome.

Rimes and Cibrian are currently in a committed relationship and currently live together in Los Angeles.

"I feel like I'm just now finding myself," Rimes continued. "I've always been one of those people who takes care of everyone else--and their needs--first. This past year, for the first time ever, I put me first. I'm sure some people are thinking that I was totally selfish, but the truth is, there are times in your life when you have to be selfish in order to find out what truly makes you happy."

Though the infidelity drama is in her past, she realizes "there are lessons in it for me to learn" and that the "most important thing" is "cultivating strength from rough situations." As she tells Shape, "After going through this, I know I can face anything."

so if i cheat on my wife, and make a random excuse it will be ok? i won't be looked at as a pos? because that's exactly what she did and no=body seems to be mad at her.

LeAnn - You get divorced first and then date someone, it's not the other way around!! It's wrong what you did and what Eddie did also to his wife. Two wrongs don't make it right so...... End of story.

Leave them alone. Almost everyone cheats in todays world. If he wasnt cheating with her it would be someone else. Its in his DNA. I personally dont believe in it but the facts are everywhere. If you dont love someone anymore, get the hell out. Leave the sour grapes at home!!!

My husband had an affair on me. It is hard on your children not to mention yourself. The emotional rollercoaster has been the hardest part of my life. We were married for fifteen years with a fourteen year old daoughter. If you are that unhappy, the wisest and most unselfish thing to do is end the marriage first, then proceed with whatever road you think will make you happy. Affairs do nothing but cause heartache, more than likely karma will play a major role for anyone that has caused that much pain for another person.

I can see why she is happy with her decision to cheat, but what the hell did Eddie see in this squinty eyed, man faced UG?? She said she grew up "America's Sweetheart" - HAHAHA what a joke!!! And what an inflated ego! I never could stand her singing, her face or her at all, and she has not improved with age!! And now on top of all that, she's a big ole' CHEATER!!! Nasty!!!!

Lee Ann Rimes let the paparazzi catch her with her finger in her nose nearly all the way up to her knuckle. How smart do you have to be to know not to pick your nose in public? She's trash, and Eddie Cibrian is trashier trash. They're both disgusting individuals, and belong together.

I think one way or the other about the affair. What I do think about now when I hear her music; however, is that photograph of Rimes boring into her nose. I'm surprised this didn't have a bigger impact on her career. It's not often that you see a celebrity picking her nose with such "depth." It's so gross.

Apparently she lied when speaking her wedding vows. Instead of working out the differences for the sake of the marriage, she found it easier to cheat on her husband, and now she tries to rationalize the sin. She's right up there with the dixie chicks.

Obviously LeeAnn Rimes is a cheating pig. It's in her blood to be disloyal, its just who she is. It'll happen again when she and this other guy grow apart. Which they will. He cheats too, so it's inevitable.

What I don't understand is why Eddie's ex wife agreed to let the children go live with Eddie and LeAnn. They originally had shared custody . That would be hard for me to do .
