Mark Hoppus Talks With Twitter-Quitter John Mayer on 'A Different Spin'

Fuse will be launching its new series, 'A Different Spin With Mark Hoppus,' tonight at 7 p.m., and in his first interview for the show, the blink-182 bassist sits down with
John Mayer to talk about everything from his latest album to why he
recently deleted his Twitter account.
"He just said it wasn't for him anymore," Hoppus tells PopEater about Mayer's Twitter-quitter status. "He was really cool about it. He's like, 'You know, I don't dislike Twitter; I don't have anything bad to say against people who use it. It's just not for me right now at this point in my life.'"
Mayer's 'A Different Spin' appearance is the singer-songwriter's first interview in eight months, and Hoppus made sure to cover all bases. "John is an awesome guy. He's a friend from L.A. -- really smart, really talented," Hoppus remarks. "The interview actually ran so long that they ran out of tape, and had to put a new one in. It was like a 40-minute interview."
'A Different Spin' is a weekly program hosted by Hoppus and comedienne Amy Schumer, aimed at covering "everything in the world of music with a humorous twist." Although Hoppus has enjoyed many years as a musician, he also has plenty of experience interviewing bands on his own podcast, 'Hi My Name Is Mark.'
"Being in a band for almost 20 years, I think I bring a good perspective to talking both with and about other musicians," Hoppus explains. "I think that my sense of humor blended with Amy's sense of humor is going to be something that's fun to watch, and I think I'm just generally an awesome person and people are going to want to watch me on TV."
However, Hoppus says Schumer raises the bar when it comes to their comedic banter. "Amy absolutely keeps me on my toes," he admits. "You know how they say that some people cross the line? I'm not sure that Amy even recognizes that there might be a line anywhere."
'A Different Spin' will also feature musical performances -- the first of which is by Neon Trees -- but Hoppus won't necessarily be behind the amp. "If the opportunity comes up and it feels like something fun and it makes sense, then I totally will," he says of joining his guests on stage. "It's not a requirement, and I don't want it to be like a bit, but I would play with bands that I'm friends with or, obviously, when Blink comes on the show."
Although Hoppus is still actively making music, and hoping to release a new blink-182 album "early next year," he's taking his newly packed schedule in stride -- and with his bandmates' backing. "Before I took the job at Fuse, I sat down with Tom (DeLonge) and Travis (Barker) and talked to them about it. They were both wildly enthusiastic and complimentary, so I'm very fortunate to have the total support of my bandmates. I think it will be a very, very busy rest of the year, but I'm really excited by it too."
For now, Hoppus is concentrating on his show and newfound appreciation for being on the flip side of things. "Being in a band, I thought, 'Why do all these interviewers always ask the same questions?' But then when I started interviewing other bands for the podcast, and now for the TV show, [I understood that] people ask the questions that people are curious about," he muses. "But it's definitely harder asking the questions, than being asked. I can talk about myself all day, but to try to be an engaging interviewer, I think, is more difficult than just answering questions that someone puts to you."
'A Different Spin With Mark Hoppus' premieres on Fuse tonight, September 16, at 7 p.m ET.

It is impossible to fall out of love. Love is such a powerful emotion, that once it envelops you it does not depart. True love is eternal. If you think that you were once in love, but fell out of it, then it wasn't love you were in. There are no 'exit' signs in love, there is only an 'on' ramp.
