We Need to Leave Shiloh Jolie-Pitt (and Her Clothes) Alone!

It is starting to get a little unseemly how much attention the media pays to Shiloh Jolie-Pitt's fashion and style sense. She is, after all, only four years old.
One of the most read stories on the US Weekly
website last week was "Shiloh Jolie-Pitt Rocks Combat Boots." The story read: "Shiloh Jolie-Pitt made yet another fashion statement at London's Heathrow Airport on Monday."
Thankfully this particular post shied away from the kind of commentary we are now used to seeing on Shiloh's sartorial senses, which include claims made by fashion editors that she is androgynous and her mother,
Angelina Jolie, is wrong for allowing her to dress like a boy, claims that make it seem wrong that a four year old girl happens to be a tom boy.
Jolie, 35, has admitted that she dresses her blonde daughter "like a little dude" because that is what the little girl asks for. "She likes tracksuits, she likes [regular] suits. She likes to dress like a boy."
And that's fine. What isn't fine is the constant commentary on it. She's just a toddler!! We thought it was bad when the media scrutinized another young girl in the spotlight because of her looks. That was Chelsea Clinton. Even though her treatment was rough, she was at least practically a teenager when she was publicly shamed for her awkward years.
The commenters only feed the frenzy.
"I'm kinda thinking Chastity Bono here? Then again it could be just a childhood phase."
"Some women are jealous of their daughters...has anyone ever thought that maybe mama dresses her that way on purpose...she's been dressed that way since she was a baby...just saying"
In one fell swoop Shiloh has been transformed into a post-op transsexual whose mother hates her. And she only recently started using the toilet on her own.
What is happening with Shiloh is a new low and one that could be psychologically damaging to the child in the future. We can only hope she never sees all the things that have been written about her.
"Hopefully, since she is only four years old, Shiloh has been spared awareness of the media's scrutiny of her style," says psychiatrist Dr. Carole Lieberman. "As Shiloh gets older, and becomes more aware of the media scrutiny - which will inevitably be both positive and negative - she will need help in coping with being put under the microscope. One can only hope that, despite their relationship preoccupying most of their attention, her parents will be vigilant, protective and sensitive to her feelings."
It will be Brad and Angie's job going forward to make sure Shiloh doesn't overdose on the nasty things that have been written about her since she learned to walk and put on her own high waters and Doc Martens.
"We really don't know the long term impact of this type of exploitive attention on a child since this whole phenomenon is relatively new," says 'Cult of Celebrity' author Cooper Lawrence. "Researchers do not have access to these children to study them. In my opinion, the paparazzi should stop photographing and commenting on famous children on the off chance it does have a negative impact. Why on earth would they want to be responsible for that?"
Let Shiloh do what she wants. When I was four, I wore boys Spider-Man under-roos. Why? Because they were cool. Chaz Bono wore dresses when he was a little girl. What we wear when we're four doesn't mean anything, but what other people say about it definitely could.

"and what (sic) part wasn't English in my statement?" Are you f*cking kidding me? None of it from what I can tell.
For Christ sake, leave the little kid alone. Shiloh is a little tomboy. I'm loving this kid.
Shiloh has got her little wranglers, t-shirt, or sweatshirt, whatever... hopefully the kids are being kids and having fun just being kids, right down to playing in mud, bringing home frogs, and all the black and blues and boo boo's, that goes along with being a little kid. Mommy and Daddy will kiss the boo boo's and make them all better, and chances are the kids will go right back out doing the same thing.

Funny you dont see Zahara dressing like that??????????????

Zahara already draws enough attention being black, so they don't have to dress her weird.
Leave the kids alone.

I wonder how Brad would feel if Knox wanted to wear dresses? Anybody think they would let him out of the house like that?

I doubt that Shiloh chooses these butch clothes to wear. Her parents should be ashamed pushing her like this into the gay scene. At 4 she doesn't know about sexual preference and I'm sure doesn't choose to be dressed like this. The other daughter is usually dressed in girlie clothes.

Some girls like to dress in jeans and t-shirts, but not to this degree. It CLEARLY appears her clothes are picked out by an adult. They look like mini versions of female golfers clothes.
well from the four pictures in the article the kid is dressed like other kids. Not sure where the problem is. BUT I DO take offense with the generational abuse that parents heap on their kids by giving them hyphenated names. And lets not get into the fact that mommy and daddy didnt have the courage or honesty or integrity to actually get married. And while we are at it, lets stop naming boys feminine names (LaTory, etc)....

There are plenty of tom-boyish looking clothes that Angelina could buy for Shiloh without having her look like a little boy. How about pink warm up suits, jeans and cute t shirts? I hope I live long enough to see how all these Hollywood-type kids turn out.

WHO TF CARES??? Tiny children are not sexual beings. It's not like she's trying to turn herself into a transgendered person like Chaz Bono. She's effing four! If she likes shorts and t-shirts instead of prissy little dresses, who are we to care? It's not your business to tell someone else how to dress their kid or how to cut their hair. It's not like she's being harmed. Get over your idiotic gender sterotypes.

I guess AOL had enough stupidity for one day.

she is a beautiful little girl and if you people had any sense you would let shiloh and her family alone. Her personality is developing and noone has the right to judge. As far as her parents, i wish they were mine. Just lay off and find a life.

why in the hell would they want to promote that look. That baby didn't ask to wear that stuff. Angelina is a nutjob and this proves it.

Git a grip people, good God, with all the turmoil in the world all of your effort is put into what a 4 year old should or should not wear according to a bunch of people who are soooooo trivial, give the kid and her parents & everyone else a BREAK.

I try to get my 4 year old daughter to wear colours other than pink and purple and she looks at me as if i've gone mad. She owns orange, blue, green etc and i've taken her out to pick other things, but she will not allow any other colour item to touch her skin. You people don't know what you're talking about!!! I'd like to see you all tell a 4year old girl what to wear!

My daughter refused to wear dresses when she was younger than two. She is a married woman with three grown children now, works in a professional field, and still refused to wear anything that smackes of feminine. She is lovable, hard working, funny, a fabulous cook, and happily married to a guy that loves that she hunts, fishes, helps build fences, drives a truck, and maintains a spotless and beautiful home that doesn't look like a "grandma's house". Shilow is a beautiful, healthy little girl who has a mind of her own. Leave her alone and watch her grow. She will be a healthier grown up than most celebrity children we see.

We should leave these very young kids alone. what I find interesting is that somebody sees fit to champion this little girl but no mention of defending Suri. Wow talk about picking and choosing
