Source: Nicole Richie and Joel Madden to Marry in December

Note to celebrity wedding watchers: don't count on Nicole Richie and Joel Madden's nuptials to happen in the next few weeks just because her bachelorette party took place this past weekend. A source tells E!Online they're planning to tie the knot later in the year.

Richie and Madden are hoping to exchange vows in December but due to scheduling and planning issues, the reality TV starlet decided to throw her bachelorette party last weekend in Mexico.

Richie celebrated in Cabo with a bunch of friends including Christina Aguilera and Samantha Ronson. While it was originally thought to be a birthday celebration (she turned 29 on Tuesday,) she was spotted in a bride-to-be sash later in the weekend.

As her wedding day approaches, Richie still has some preparing to do. She reportedly hasn't selected a wedding dress yet, though sources say she's been looking at a bunch with her stylist Simone Harouche.

And while the bride-to-be hasn't finalized a location yet, a source tells E!Online she's thinking about holding the festivities at her dad Lionel Richie's Los Angeles estate.

Richie and Madden spilled the news of their engagement this past February: Richie confirmed the news on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' and Madden took to Twitter to reveal the good news. "Yep. I'm engaged. Very happy," Madden wrote. "Yeah we've been engaged for a while so you're all kind of late on that. But thanks for the hooplah all the same."

Joel says that they have been engaged for awhile and so reporting it now is late. They have two children, so I would say the engagement is late.

It would have been nice if her "nuptials" took place before she got knocked up the first time. A wedding after two kids is pretty much pointless.

Well, I guess better late than never, but doesn't it seem a tad ridiculous to be having a bachelorette party when you've been living with a guy for years and have two children together?
