The 36th season of 'Saturday Night Live' kicked off with a high-profile lineup:Former 'Weekend Update' anchor and two-time Emmy nominee Amy Poehler was the host (she welcomed cameos from Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake), with music from the always-cheeky Katy Perry.
But things got real when the inspiration for one of Fred Armisen's most controversial impersonations -- New York state's Gov. David Paterson -- interrupted Armisen's banter with Seth Myers to cut the jokesters down to size with a few zingers of his own.

I didn't realize how spot on his impersonation is until they were on stage together. Uncanny!
God. This show is such a let down. I keep expecting one of these days it'll be funny beyond the opening monologue. No luck so far.

Meh. As I'd stated once before,I stopped watching "SNL" years ago, making a rare exception for the 2008 Election Special(which was actually pretty funny).

I agree 100% with Kat and TOTALLy disagree with Robbie. SNL has been on the air for decades - it is funny! This particular skit had me laughing so hard I still have tears in my eyes. NY & NJ are my states and I don't care if they poke fun - heck, we sometimes ask for it. I also really like it when the politicians find humor in their positions. Kudos to Paterson. I'm just waiting for someone to impersonate Chris Christie!

Fred always did a great job with Patterson, in fact they look related. One is a blind Gov. of New York the other is a blind womanizer.

SNL, was really huge back in the 70s. I used to stay up to see it. I havent been a wake to see it in years, old age caught up to me.
But seeing this reminds me how funny it can be.
Paterson and his look a like were hilarious.
I like a person who can laugh at their selves.

Still love SNL!! And I started watching it the first season. (yeah, i'm older than Madonna lol)
Does anyone else besides me think that Katy Perry looked pregnant last night?

She just looked thick, as always. Personally I don't think that's a bad thing. Too bad she can't sing as well as she fills out a school girl uniform.
Funny man, slashed school and hospital budgets, funny funny man.
