Comedian Greg Giraldo Critical After Drug Overdose

Greg Giraldo, the popular comedian and judge on 'Last Comic Standing,' reportedly overdosed on prescription pills Saturday night at a hotel in New Jersey and was listed in serious condition, according to a
New York Post source. Earlier in the day, he was slated to perform at an event feting Drug Addiction Recovery Month.
The funnyman, who recently helped roast David Hasselhoff on Comedy Central, was found unresponsive during a party at his hotel in East Brunswick, New Jersey. "It was like a zoo here," an eyewitness said of the bash.
Paramedics resuscitated Giraldo and rushed him to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in nearby New Brunswick. Contrary to assorted reports, there is no indication that the overdose was a suicide attempt.
"It was an accidental overdose, and he is in critical condition," a source at Giraldo's management company, The Collective, told the Post on Sunday.
It is now believed he is in
stable condition.
Giraldo, 44, was staying at the hotel while performing a four-night stand at the Stress Factory comedy club in New Brunswick. Club-goers were told at the Saturday night show that Giraldo would be scrapped from the bill after being rushed to the hospital for undisclosed reasons.
Almost immediately, fans took to his
Facebook page to find out what was wrong with him. "We were at the show," one fan named Megan wrote. "No information. Just that he canceled and was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson hospital. I strongly DOUBT he died!"
Soon, hundreds of comments streamed in, many with a dose of humor. "Don't be so f*****g hip, Greg. Just because Lindsay and Paris are doing it," a fan named John wrote. "Get help, get better and make us laugh for another 30 years."
He is a father of four and has been open about his past substance abuse. Ironically, Giraldo was scheduled to
perform at the New York Recovery Rally at Randall's Island Park in NYC earlier on Saturday to mark National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.
Howard Stern fans who are taking the news hard can at least find some relief in word that
Artie Lange -- a colleague of Giraldo's -- made a successful comeback to the stage in New York this weekend over nine months after his suicide attempt.

OK....so what "prescription pills"/medication(s) did he OD on ??? He probably drank alcohol earlier at the party, which is contra-indicated when taking most drugs/medicines. Either way, he's lucky.............

Yeah..leave us not be hard on the "man". And we're wasting money on reviving him.....why?

When one of us takes too much "medication" it's an overdose. When a celebrity does it it's an accident. That way their career doesn't suffer.

The headline says he's in critical condition then you keep reading and it says he's in stable condition. Which is it?

Another nobody. Who cares?

First I'd like to know what drug he overdosed on and how he was able to obtain it. What is the reason he needed the drug for? I'm so sick of reading or hearing about these people and their prescription drug addictions. These kind of people make it hard for people who have REAL PAIN, REAL ILLNESSES to obtain medications that they NEED. I'm pissed at all junkies who don't need these medications easily obtaining them! When is it going to end ?

Myantiquesplace, exactly how do you translate that to mean that the zoo-like atmosphere was caused by paramedics administering aid to this guy? In my world, a "bash" is a wild party, not emergency medical treatment.

Prescription drugs are the new crack for celebrities.

I feel terrible about him dying. I hope his wife is well taken care of so that she can raise their children without hardship. RIP, Greg.

Such a lack of empathy from a bunch of moralizing knuckleheads. I wish you people were dead instead of Greg -- he had talent, you have none.

For people that don't understand how perscription drugs work and why so many people "accidentally" overdose. When you have an injury or surgery and a doctor perscribes pain killers like percocet or vicodin they work well until your able to get back on your feet. However some people have chronic pain issues, like my 12 knee, 4 foot, and 3 back surgeries. Your body quickly builds up a tolerance and you have to start taking more to take the pain away. Then the doctorsnd you to "pain management" whiich is just another doctor whp prescribes much stronger painkillers and will normally switch you to Oxycontin and the cycle continues. 1 - 80Omg Oxycontin is the equivalent to a normal 5mg percocet. In addition you are usually perscribed 10mg percocet or 20mg roxy's on top of the Oxycontin for acute pain. I built up such a tolerance that I was taking 12 80mg Oxycontins and chewing between 40 to 60 10mg percocet, EVERY DAY. This can kill you because of the amount of Acetomenafen and constricts your airways. If your lucky you live because when you try to stop taking these prescriptins that the doctors got you hooked on, you would probably prefer to sodomize yourself with a curling iron instead of go just one day without taking the medication. I have an IQ of 160 and graduated from Harvard so I'm not just some junky, but breaking the grip that these medications have on your life is the most difficult thing I have every experienced. Hopefully none of you will ever have to go through it but don't judge those that you don't know.
