Comedian Greg Giraldo Critical After Drug Overdose

Greg Giraldo, the popular comedian and judge on 'Last Comic Standing,' reportedly overdosed on prescription pills Saturday night at a hotel in New Jersey and was listed in serious condition, according to a
New York Post source. Earlier in the day, he was slated to perform at an event feting Drug Addiction Recovery Month.
The funnyman, who recently helped roast David Hasselhoff on Comedy Central, was found unresponsive during a party at his hotel in East Brunswick, New Jersey. "It was like a zoo here," an eyewitness said of the bash.
Paramedics resuscitated Giraldo and rushed him to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in nearby New Brunswick. Contrary to assorted reports, there is no indication that the overdose was a suicide attempt.
"It was an accidental overdose, and he is in critical condition," a source at Giraldo's management company, The Collective, told the Post on Sunday.
It is now believed he is in
stable condition.
Giraldo, 44, was staying at the hotel while performing a four-night stand at the Stress Factory comedy club in New Brunswick. Club-goers were told at the Saturday night show that Giraldo would be scrapped from the bill after being rushed to the hospital for undisclosed reasons.
Almost immediately, fans took to his
Facebook page to find out what was wrong with him. "We were at the show," one fan named Megan wrote. "No information. Just that he canceled and was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson hospital. I strongly DOUBT he died!"
Soon, hundreds of comments streamed in, many with a dose of humor. "Don't be so f*****g hip, Greg. Just because Lindsay and Paris are doing it," a fan named John wrote. "Get help, get better and make us laugh for another 30 years."
He is a father of four and has been open about his past substance abuse. Ironically, Giraldo was scheduled to
perform at the New York Recovery Rally at Randall's Island Park in NYC earlier on Saturday to mark National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.
Howard Stern fans who are taking the news hard can at least find some relief in word that
Artie Lange -- a colleague of Giraldo's -- made a successful comeback to the stage in New York this weekend over nine months after his suicide attempt.
