Jon Stewart Says He Has 'Quite a Bit In Common' With Glenn Beck

In a conversation with NPR's Terry Gross this week,
Jon Stewart took the high road in his comments on Glenn Beck, who has warned Stewart and his "rival" Stephen Colbert that if they go ahead with their planned rallies in Washington October 30,
they will '"go the way of Oprah."
"People have said it's a rally to counter Glenn Beck. It's not," Stewart said of his
'Rally to Restore Sanity', calling his event a "beautiful structure to fill with what we want to express."
Discussing Beck's "Restore Honor" rally in Washington in August, Stewart said, "When I'd heard about what was happening, Glenn was going to do a rally to restore honor, I thought that's a great idea, it's perfect," he said.
Beck is "a reaction to what he feels like is the news and so are we. We actually share quite a bit in common. Not point of view necessarily, but reason for being, we're both in some ways an op-ed," Stewart explained to an audience gathered at the 92nd Street Y in New York City.
Stewart stressed that he "very much wanted to avoid the idea" that his rally would be a reaction to Beck, "because I don't think that would be fair to him. It's not meant to ridicule activism or the Tea Party movement or religious people ... What I thought would be great is if Stephen could be my Al Sharpton, he's going to do a counter-rally.
Stewart's rally will be "an expression of what we've always done," he said. Asked by Gross, host of "Fresh Air," what he thought of labor unions' concerns that his and Colbert's rallies would overshadow a union rally in Washington October 2, Stewart was far less conciliatory, replying, "Yeah, tough s--t."
"If their job is to motivate voters and to rally people to their cause, God bless. My job is again to express our point of view comedically about what we view as the political process," he said.
"We're not warriors in their cause. If they're upset, they should have thought of that the past couple of years, before they lost the momentum they had gained in 2008," he said.

Where they differ: Jon has a brain. Glen has dung.

@ Fla native,
What facts? Beck makes stuff up as he goes along. Stewart points out how ridiculous he is in doing so.
You fail.

what's the name of your tv show and whats the rating
That is an insult to gnats.
Your atrocious spelling and vocabulary shows the real state of an idiot, uneducated teabagger. Anyone who doesn't look at Beck and see a looney tunes has to be pretty ignorant.
Stewart is the product of a public school system, Lawrence,NJ, that has mastered mediocrity. Outstanding academic achievement was seldom fostered...there was always a determination to "get by" on the part of the faculty and administration. Outstanding academic achievement was under-recognized, perhaps because the faculty realized they were ill-prepared to deal with great intellectual curiousity. His gig reflects this background.

Yeah, and Sarah Palin, doper Glenn Beck, Michelle Bachman, et al are geniuses! Please! It takes a brilliant mind to do satire. You probably don't understand what he and Colbert are saying half of the time. Get a "liberal Marxist" to explain it to you sometimes.
Beck stop your whinning...Beck you think you can do what you want.. but others shouldnt be allowed to... thats MARXISM... .. you do look like a nazi

GLENN BECK HAS A MISSION IN LIFE [LIKE IT OR NOT]. STEWART IS A FUNNY MAN [LIKE IT OR NOT] TRYING TO BE RELEVANT WHICH HE WILL NEVER BE. BECK ATTEMPTS TO EDUCATE WHERE STEWARD PUTS DOWN PEOPLE BECAUSE HE THINKS ITS FUNNY - MOST DO - WHICH IS PARTLY WHY THE YOUNGER GENERATION IS WHERE IT IS TODAY-UNDER EDUCATED AND WITHOUT THE SLIGHTEST CLUE.

A mission in life ? So did Hitler.
Sir, at least we've managed to learn where the Caps lock button is.
William, Beck trying to educate? One must have an IQ of at least 40 in order to do that.
What exactly is Glenn Beck's Mission that you seem so sure of! Maybe when he is finished with his mission he can teach you about proper use of upper case and lower case. I will look forward to your all upper case explanation of Mr. Beck's Mission. Look in the mirror and you will see someone who is UNDER EDUCATED AND WITHOUT THE SLIGHTEST CLUE!
Glenn Beck spends his life deliberately misleading others with his uneducated ill informed spin on US history and the world in general. At least Stewart understands what satire and humor can do to inform not destroy.
