Howard Stern Makes Jim Breuer Nervous Like a School Girl

The first time comedian, beloved 'Half Baked' star and 'SNL's' Goat Boy, Jim Breuer appeared on the
Howard Stern show more than five years ago he was shaking in his boots. Turns out he had nothing to be afraid of. Meeting Stern and the morning show crew was actually a lot like "walking into your best friend's garage," Breuer says. And they seem to have liked him too, since the Stern family invited Breuer to host the 'Howard Stern's 25 Greatest Celebrity Guests,' which started airing on Saturday on Video on Demand and Pay-Per-View.
The show contains interviews with some of the most iconic personalities of our time including Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Robert Duvall, Jim Carrey, David Letterman, Heather Locklear,
Pam Anderson, Rodney Dangerfield, James Caan, Rosie O'Donnell and Willie Nelson.
We chatted with Jim about what it was like hosting a show for one of his greatest role models and about his new book, 'I'm Not High (But I Do Have a Lot of Crazy Stories About Life as a Goat Boy, a Dad, and a Spiritual Warrior).'
So how did you get this awesome gig as host of the '25 Greatest Guests'?
They just asked me if I would do it. Can you believe that? I've been a fan of Howard since I was a kid. I've gone through everything. I used to stay up to watch the TV show on channel 9. I loved the movie. I didn't read the book because I'm not a reader. I went through the divorce with him and went through all the different emotions with him. He's like this best friend/uncle that you think you have.
But unlike most fans, you got to hang with Howard. You've been on the show.
Yeah and I was so nervous the first time. Nothing gets me nervous and I was shaking. But it all changed when I got there. When I walked in Howard reminded me of everyone I grew up with. It was like walking into a friends garage and I just let me guard down.
You're hosting the 'Greatest Celebrity Guests.' Do you have a favorite guest of Howard's?
There's a couple. Tracy Morgan always makes me belly laugh. James Caan to me is like this huge icon actor that comes across differently every time, and same for Robert Duvall. I'm more interested in those guys. The girls don't interest me.
Do you have a favorite Howard Stern show moment?
Sam Kinison whenever he was on and Bon Jovi before he was anything. He was just this young kid from Jersey and Howard would always ask him how he hit all the high notes. I was also all hopped up when Howard was going to run for mayor. I really wanted him to run.
Once this Sirius contract expires where do you want to see Howard end up?
I could care less as long as he is somewhere. Terrestrial radio is just beyond awful and I don't think he'd be able to do that again. He's conquered the world. He's conquered satellite. Sirius should just be renamed Howard Stern radio.
So what have you been up to? You wrote a book about not being a stoner or a Goat Boy?
I would like to go back to doing radio every day. I've been producing short films but if I go back to radio I would like to end up on Howard's channel. I think I could make him proud. And yeah I am also waiting to see where the book brings me after it comes out on Tuesday.
How long did the book take to write? And what are the best stories in the book?
I started in November 2008 and ended around October of 2009, so about a year on and off. I used the road to write it and I was exhausted when I was done because I was so attached to every chapter and I would have to relive every single memory to write it. The best stories in the book, to me, aren't the entertainment stories, they're the real life stories. There is one where all in one day I sign a contract with a sleaze bag, feel like a filthy hooker and that same night he tells me I got a television show and I go to tell my brother and he dies. That's a phenomenal story. Those stories are awesome and powerful and funny and I think they will really reach people.

Breuer's like that alcoholic but hysterically funny uncle at your annual family cookout who's always the life of the party. I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

Howard Stern is a bed bug!

James Caan is a good call for one of the greatest celebrity guests. He told fascinating Hollywood stories that all seemed very real. Also great was Don Rickles and, of course, the many feuds with Pat Cooper.

The Stern spot was really really funny. Howard is the best interviewer. Jim constantly cracked up everyone in the studio. Rob Schneider was really funny too. Rob was on the next day and they talked about how funny Jim was.
