After eight rough weeks of chemotherapy and radiation, Michael Douglas is almost finished with treatment for throat cancer, PEOPLE reports. The actor has one treatment left this week and "no further treatments are scheduled," says his publicist and friend Allen Burry.

His recovery will take another six weeks and then the Academy Award-winning actor will have periodic check-ups. "He's really happy about it ending," says Burry.

Burry said the treatments can make swallowing painful and eating difficult and that Douglas "was determined not to have a feeding tube, and he didn't have to have one."

According to RadarOnline.com, after Douglas was spotted walking his daughter to school on Tuesday, his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones told reporters, "He's just finishing up his treatment. He's holding up very, very well and everyone could not be happier with the progress. He's doing fine thanks. He's strong and the doctors are so happy and he's just about to complete - what anyone who's gone through it knows - a pretty grueling eight weeks."
