David Archuleta Puts His Own Spin on Pop Music

When
David Archuleta started working on the follow-up to his 2008 self-titled album, he wanted to put his own spin on some of his musical influences like Natasha Bedingfield and
Jason Mraz.
"I wanted to have something where everyone can listen to my music, so I tried to take it a little bit further than that last album," the19-year-old '
American Idol' alum tells PopEater. "I kind of 'dorkified' and 'Davidized' things, so I feel excited that it's my version of pop music right now."
Being a huge fan of alt-pop artist Alison Sudol, also known as
A Fine Frenzy, Archuleta found her 2009 record 'Bomb in a Birdcage' as the main inspiration for the title track of his latest release, 'The Other Side of Down.'
"The title track, 'The Other Side of Down,' was actually influenced by A Fine Frenzy, who I look up to," Archuleta admits. "After listening to [her song] 'Electric Twist' and showing that to the writers, one of them started playing this guitar riff and I started singing this rhythm and melody on top of it. That's where that song was born."
"I really love Alison Sudol and the last album she did," Archuleta adds. "She was very expressive and emotional with her [older] music, but this last album, she wanted to make happy, feel good, positive music. She was able to that in a very quirky way but it still had some substance to it even though it was light and fun. I was like, 'I want to be able to do that.'"

Talented kid. The best young singer in the music scene. His new album is full of interesting songs that never make me fall asleep. I have bought some idol albums that I never listen twice except this kid's and Kelly Clarkson's albums.
