Anderson Cooper Blasts New Vince Vaughn Trailer

Anderson Cooper won't be seeing 'The Dilemma.'
In a discussion with
Ellen DeGeneres, Cooper took issue with the movie's trailer, in which Vince Vaughn's character uses the word "gay" in a derogatory fashion, although he never named the actor or the actual film.
"I was sitting in a movie theater over the weekend and there was a preview of a movie, and in it, the actor said, 'That's so gay,' and I was shocked that not only that they put it in the movie, but that they thought that it was okay to put that in a preview for the movie to get people to go and see it," he told Ellen.
UPDATE: Universal has agreed to remove the "so gay" line from the trailer. Full Story
"I just find those words, those terms, we've got to do something to make those words unacceptable because those words are hurting kids. Someone else I talked to recently said that the words people use and the things people say about other kids online, it enters into their internal dialogue," he added.
"And when you're a kid, it can change the way you see yourself and the way you think about yourself, and the worth that you give to yourself. I think we need to really focus on what language we're using and how we're treating these kids," the CNN anchor continued.
Universal Studios is reportedly caught off guard by the spate of criticism about the trailer. A studio insider tells
Deadline Hollywood's Nikki Finke that the studio "showed the trailer to gay groups like GLAAD and gay executives here and gays in our marketing department and no one was offended and everyone had a positive response."
But a representative of GLAAD tells
PopEater that they were never on board.
"That is inaccurate," spokesman Richard Ferraro said in response to reports that the gay rights group approved. "GLAAD does not and did not support this trailer."
Many celebrities, including Cooper and DeGeneres, have
spoken out against bullying following the recent suicides of several gay teens.

I think the focus should be on strengthening gays backbones than forcing society to accept. Society will accept the strong be it whatever, always did and always will.
It's probably more offensive to gay men than gay women, because it is often used to imply "feminine" "weak" "ridicilously sensitive" etc. Women have less issue with those implications than men do, gay or not, partly because of what society imposes on males.
We have to learn to respect people, is not our bussiness what they decide to do with their lives. Andeson you are GREAT.
Thanks for being so profesional.
We Love you.

I agree with yoy TwistedLooney. That's a phrase I hear a lot of people use and most of them are not straight either.
AC is definately the catcher.
Very well said - good response
Gays and lesbians....its just wrong...there are no 2 ways about it. You chose it! live with it!
OMG ur awsome... thats exactly what i was thinking, but im not gay lol
@Jariah,
Stop being so gay about it. Yeesh...you guys hijacked the word "gay" to begin with. It used to mean "happy" Hanging out with the Flinstones and having a "gay old time" didn't mean that Barney was boning Fred in the butt-rock. It is just queer (meaning strange) that people get so wrapped up in a word. If you have a problem with people using the word, go back to your original word "homo-sexual" Words that are ok to use:
Whitey, Honkey, Cracker, Teabagger, Right-wing lunatic...
So a hurtful word is ok to use as long as it isn't against YOUR group? That's just gay! Hope everyone has a gay (meaning happy) weekend! Giggety!
The gay crowd should loosen up. Try being like the elder crowd. We femms way past 65 are are very accepting about describers such as "old," old ladyish," "dowdy," "oldy moldy," "not young and fresh" and the like. Gays, please try to be less offended. It would make life more affirming and less accusatory for everybody. And "gay" is a much better word than "queer," don't you think?
Yeah, I don't think the term "That's so gay" has anything at all to do with gay/lesbian individuals. Didn't they do a South Park about that? I say "That's so gay," meaning that something is stupid, but I never remotely think that I'm saying gay people are stupid, and my best friend, who is gay, doesn't think that either. To be fair, the term "gay" originally didn't mean homosexual but happy, so maybe the saying "That's so gay" is a slam on happiness -- why isn't anyone in an uproar about that?! LOL
@jariah Just remember that the word "gay" to describe homosexuals is kinda derogatory in itself. Why can't someone use the word "gay' in another fashion? It used to just mean happy. I always found it insulting to start using it to mean homosexual, implying that homos are flitting flaming smiling balls of love and smiles! How insulting. Gays should be fighting to remove the word "gay" from their lives PERIOD. Why are gays fine with the word "gay?" I predict a time when that word will be politically incorrect. I know many homosexual men who refuse to call themselves "gay." They simply say homosexual. Vince Vaughn's character did not mean that electric cars were driven by homosexuals. He even said that it wasn't meant to mean homosexual. Relax people. WTF is the big deal about?
U SUK BIT(H
For those of you offended by the use of the word "gay" in a derogitory manner, I'd like to remind you that the word "gay" and the word "homosexual" are NOT the same. It seems to have been hijacked by many who are....homosexual....so quit hating those who use it their own way.
Again, Coopers getting his panties in a bunch over some words. THIS IS AMERICA! we give you the right to be gay so we should get the right to use the word however we want, its our decision, that's what makes America great, or that's what's supposed to make us great....

And as for Jariah, I really don't care if you're a gay man or not. Nobody really cares except for you! I don't go around making sure everyone knows that I'm a hetero woman. Get over it! Go do something other than think about yourself and you're problems!
That's the dumbest thing I've ever read. We "give" you the right to be gay? Really? What we do "give" via the Constitution, is stupid bigots the right to say whatever they want.
Anderson, I love you, but you gotta lighten up about this. When you take it upon yourself to be the word police, you sound like a whiney d-bag... and I don't want you to sound that way! Intention is owned by the speaker, not the interpretor.
i agree with you Undo, we have the same right to say what we want , and no, gays are not accepted as gay, just human people whose lives are different and not normal. whether you like it or not gays, you are not normal living people. just humans, feel what you want about yourselves, but dont condem anyone for hating your life styles. and as far as blacks, italians went through alot also, always be sterotyped for mafia,, not so.so stop crying already.
"YOU GIVE US THE RIGHT TO BE GAY" just like I give you the right to be a a moron! NO ONE GAVE ME ANY RIGHTS FOR BEING GAY - IF FACT THEY HAVE TAKEN THEM AWAY AND USED MY BEING GAY AS A REASON TO HATE ME, DENY ME EMPLOYMENT< DENY ME THE RIGHT TO MARRY AND STILL HAVE TO PAY TAXES TO A GOVERNMENT WHO DOES NOT AFFORD THE THE SAME PRIVILDGES AS THE REST OF ITS CITIZENS! Let's clear it up, you didn't give me anything, you take away from, you take away our dignity, and relpace it with hate, you take away our love and replace it with distain. YOU DO NOTHING FOR GAY PEOPLE BUT MAKE SURE THEY ARE NEVER, EVER ARE ALLOWED THE EQUALITY PROMISED TO US IN THE COUNSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
qwen4aday: Actually sweetie, you do have the right to marry just like every other American in this country. You just don't want to marry who it is legal for you to marry, thus it is your choice not to marry. You have all of the same rights as the rest of America, you just don't want to go about it lawfully. Your dignity and self esteem is your choice, not America's choice. You choose your attitude and your behavior. If you have a problem in this area, do something about it. Sounds to me like an issue with personal responsibility not discrimination....personal responsibility is seriously lacking in most of America today!
