Anderson Cooper Blasts New Vince Vaughn Trailer

Anderson Cooper won't be seeing 'The Dilemma.'
In a discussion with
Ellen DeGeneres, Cooper took issue with the movie's trailer, in which Vince Vaughn's character uses the word "gay" in a derogatory fashion, although he never named the actor or the actual film.
"I was sitting in a movie theater over the weekend and there was a preview of a movie, and in it, the actor said, 'That's so gay,' and I was shocked that not only that they put it in the movie, but that they thought that it was okay to put that in a preview for the movie to get people to go and see it," he told Ellen.
UPDATE: Universal has agreed to remove the "so gay" line from the trailer. Full Story
"I just find those words, those terms, we've got to do something to make those words unacceptable because those words are hurting kids. Someone else I talked to recently said that the words people use and the things people say about other kids online, it enters into their internal dialogue," he added.
"And when you're a kid, it can change the way you see yourself and the way you think about yourself, and the worth that you give to yourself. I think we need to really focus on what language we're using and how we're treating these kids," the CNN anchor continued.
Universal Studios is reportedly caught off guard by the spate of criticism about the trailer. A studio insider tells
Deadline Hollywood's Nikki Finke that the studio "showed the trailer to gay groups like GLAAD and gay executives here and gays in our marketing department and no one was offended and everyone had a positive response."
But a representative of GLAAD tells
PopEater that they were never on board.
"That is inaccurate," spokesman Richard Ferraro said in response to reports that the gay rights group approved. "GLAAD does not and did not support this trailer."
Many celebrities, including Cooper and DeGeneres, have
spoken out against bullying following the recent suicides of several gay teens.

More thought police to the rescue. Cooper is a tool. So what! We have to be told how to speak by him. This is the least offensive phrase I hear people utter in jest. I don't think I have ever heard it in disgust. Get a real agenda. I still remember this idiot standing in flood waters in the midwest to make us think that he actually new how the unfortunate flood victims felt. What an dope. He's so gay

Obermann? Why not Obammmamma?? Those would then be the 3 littlequeens.
Oberman is HOT!! and so is OBAMA!!!
Maybe it's my imagination, but every time I have seen AC lately, either on his show or in the news, he's got some kind of thing for gays? Has anyone else noticed this trend? Is there nothing else that he considers newsworthy? Did I miss the edition where he came out?
No wonder everyone is watching FOX.

No kidding. Cooper, get off it. Why is everyone so sensitive? If I want to say something is gay, I'll think I'll say it!!!!
julie, if i want to say you're a b***h, i think i'll say that too
He's running a week long special in reaction to the 5 kids that killed themselves after being bullied for being Gay in the past week. There has been a huge rash of them this week, but those 5 especially the Rutgers kids have garnered the most attention. He'll no doubt stop talking about it after it's no longer newsworthy material but right now it is.
@cowartcorp...you funny...you didn't know. Yes, he's gay.
I never once heard on the news about the guy who shot his self in the head with his step fathers gun for being bullied. I had to read about it from the internet news. The Rutgers guy seems to be the only one the are giving a lot of press to.
He is? Well, I don't watch the news much anymore, so I guess I didn't get the memo. He will eventually do other stories, though, right? They're not going to restrict him to just reporting on gay stuff?
Is he gay???

yep, i'm gay and it is offensive when someone who isn't uses it that way. Black people call one another the "n" word, but it is offensive if someone else does it. That use of the word "gay" indicates flaming which (surprise america) most of us are not....and by the way, anderson has a man and can have most anyone else he wants.

That is the stupidest argument I have heard. That's like saying only overweight people have to the right to call each other fat. I'm sure you done your share of name-calling haven't you? Please...get over yourself.
@ the big(gay)dawg
(surprise thebig(gay)dawg) "america" doesn't care about your (or anderson's) special interpretation of one of our words. it means what it means, not what you want it to mean.
methinks you and your bud anderson spend too much time looking for and imagining hatespeak. possibly because you spew so much of it and you know about karma? why for you wanna sling the B word @julie? the trailer is funny. lighten up. nothing offensive here except you 2 knuckleheads projecting your own hate onto us "americans."
Everyone has the right to use the word gay. It is a word in the English language that means happy, light-hearted.
Homosexuals seem to feel they can just appropriate words, rainbows and the color purple as their own. No, sorry.
The word gay belongs to everyone, so make up a word for yourselves, and I'll be happy to use it.
Naturally, you'll call me a homophobe because I dare to disagree. Not true, but the won't matter to you, so have at it.
The word gay does not apply to homosexuals at all.
Most seem to be a humorless, self important, self absorbed bunch anyway. You never see them out parading for the homeless or really downtrodden people, only for themselves.
You can use gay, but you most definitely don't own it.
Its so gay that people actually think this is newsworthy....
