No More 'Dilemma': Universal to Pull 'Gay' Trailer

After pointed criticism from CNN host Anderson Cooper beget a flood of negative headlines, Universal Studios has told the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) that they are pulling a controversial trailer for the film 'The Dilemma' that uses the word "gay" in a derogatory way.

GLAAD expressed concerns about the trailer prior to its release to YouTube and theaters, however, the studio chose to keep the line in the preview. But now that the joke has ignited an unexpected backlash, the studio "assured us that the offensive joke will be removed from TV and media campaigns promoting the film from this point forward, including the trailer currently playing in movie theaters," according to post on GLAAD's blog.

In the preview, Vince Vaughn's character uses the word "gay" to describe electric cars. "I mean, not homosexual gay," he corrects. "But my-parents-are-chaperoning-the-dance 'gay.'"

Criticism from the likes of Cooper, who called the word's use "unacceptable," reportedly caught Universal off guard. A studio insider told Deadline Hollywood that they "showed the trailer to gay groups like GLAAD and gay executives here and gays in our marketing department and no one was offended and everyone had a positive response."

But GLAAD spokesman Richard Ferraro told PopEater on Friday that claim was "inaccurate" and that "GLAAD does not and did not support this trailer."

'The Dilemma,' directed by Ron Howard and co-starring Kevin James and Queen Latifah, is set to hit theaters on Jan. 14.

OMG, now gays are going to be as annoying as blacks and milk it for all eternity. Huge tax cuts for married people, is gone dimwit. all the "so called married perks" you can get too if you married someone of the opposite sex. sorry, ur gay move on. I say no to gay marriage. Marriage has and shall always remain between MAN and WOMAN.
Here's a tip for you gays. I was told that if you file a tax return joint you are considered married. I filed a man and woman a few yrs back and that's what my supervisor told me that once they filed adn it was submitted, that they were married and would have to divorce to separate. So, try that. No wedding, no marriage ceremony.

go have a civil union or something in front of a judge.

also get over the term Gay, gay means happy and has evolved into meaning something odd or different and that's what you are.

Funny how the use of this one word prompts GLAAD into such careful deliberation, and yet America still awaits the day when she will hear, at long last, a robust, honest debate on gay marriage. What say you on this weighty issue, GLAAD? Are you ready to stand before the nation and make your case? Or will sorrowful accounts of hotel concierge misunderstandings in the court records be your only voice? What are you afraid of? Does not denial of marriage count as defamation? Then damn it, make your case in a public forum, take on the homophobes once and for all, and really show the American people what you know. C'mon GLAAD, sponsor a national debate on gay marriage, invite Barney Frank and all the best minds you've got, give it to the people, and really dissolve your opposition once and for all. We're waiting.

I have a handicapped son. I would like the same privilege as Mr. Anderson to have the word 'Retard' censored everytime I hear it in a movie/school/in public. Why are we catering to a certain group of individuals. This is just too rediculous.
