Melissa Etheridge's Ex-Wife Claims She's Too Broke to Feed Their Kids

Melissa Etheridge's ex-wife Tammy Lynn Michaels has exhibited a long, bitter streak since the couple ended their nine-year relationship in April. Over the weekend, Tammy's blog featured a post titled "Just a Cornucopia of Thoughts," railing against her famous ex.

"Her lawyer lies about / me using the kids as pawns," Tammy, 35, writes in a long poem ruminating over the personal and monetary difficulties Etheridge, 49, is reportedly putting her through.

Most notable is the claim Etheridge hasn't supported her ex and their almost-4-year-old twins with enough money to eat -- "when i went to get cash / just last week / for the three of us to eat / nothing," Michaels wrote, later saying, "I might never trust another soul again."

Michaels is currently fighting for custody of the twins, Johnnie and Miller. She carried the twins to term after being impregnated by an anonymous sperm donor. In addition to requesting full custody, Michaels is also petitioning Etheridge for spousal support.

Etheridge's attorney, Neal Hersh, told PEOPLE in July: "[Tammy] is being completely supported by Melissa and has been since they separated. She's being well-provided for and then some, as are the children, which are Melissa's first priority."

There's something ironic about this whole thing. A woman going through the same bs that a guy would go through. Child support, alimony, divorce, litigation..........The gays should be careful what they wish for.

I believe Ethridge is sqeezing Tammy to give up the children. Ethridge needs to make her financial situation public if she's telling the truth. These kids need to be taken care of. Period. Just because you are out of a relationship doesn't mean you can make hardship for the children. If you are doing this, you should be prosecuted fully!

Just because I don't agree with the gay lifestyle it doesn't make me a person filled with hatred. Some people are cruel and have hatred for things they don't believe in. That doesnt make us all that way.

What exactly is this "gay lifestyle" you speak of??
Is it one that includes getting up, eating breakfast, showering, driving 20 minutes to work, working 8 hours, driving 20 minutes home from work, cooking dinner for 2, cleaning the apartment, doing some laundry, and then finally cuddling up on the couch to watch some pointless reality TV ... because that's my GAY lifestyle. Sounds very much like every "straight lifestyle" huh??

Yeah, great ammo against gay marriage. Amen.

Not really knowing either one of them but doubtful they are starving. Why not save some of that money going to lawyers to buy food. If she cant buy food then why are the kids with her and not with Melissa? Seems with allthe time she spends blogging she could be working. What did she do before Melissa?

I'm a man who raised two children by himself. I got custody when my youngest was 6 mths and the oldest was 23 mths old. When i filed for child support the ex went out and got pregnant to get on welfare and that's where she remains to this very day some thirty 2 years later. I was denied support because equal right does not include equal wrongs. I had no choice but to work, work, work just to survive. I have no sympathy here whatsoever at all! get a job and start sweating to take care of your kids and stop crying about no money! Earn your own keep.

I see people getting into some screwy situations with regard to relationships all the time. I don't care they are gay. More power to them. I do care that people bring children into "relationships" without thinking it thru. Should have had a financial agreement in place in the event the relationship ends.

Interesting...these couples want marriage but when the relationship doesn't work out they don't want to pay "spousal" or "child" support. Can't have it both ways people. You don't get the best and ignore the worst in "marriage". If Tammy were married to a man u guys would not be telling her to get a job, quit whinning, etc.

yes, if she had been married to a man, i would expect her to get a job too. anyone, men or women, need to support themselves. quit whining and get a job. especially if there are kids involved. do what you have to do to support them.
