Oliver Stone Calls Michael Douglas' Status 'Precarious'

While in Berlin promoting 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,' director Oliver Stone made
Michael Douglas' cancer prognosis appear even more bleak, telling reporters on Tuesday that Douglas is in a "precarious" state,
AP reports.
Academy Award winner Douglas, 66, has been battling throat cancer since a
tumor was discovered in August, and he was unable to join Stone in Europe to promote the movie because he's apparently "suffering."
Last week, it was
reported that Douglas was only about a week away from finishing his chemo treatment, and that "no further treatments were scheduled."
Also last week in the same report, his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, told reporters that his outlook was getting better and that "the doctors are so happy."
Despite dealing with obvious pain in mid-September, Douglas had the
strength to attend the New York City premiere for 'Wall Street,' but didn't say a word to reporters.

I don't know what it's like to have throat cancer or what kind of chemo Michael Douglas is doing but I know how chemotherapy makes me feel as I get treated for breast cancer. It made my bones hurt, pretty badly at times not to mention the fatigue and sensitivity to hot or cold weather. So, it's no wonder why he wouldn't want to travel. Douglas could really be just hurting from the chemo or he could be in not so good shape, either way their privacy should be respected by media and Oliver Stone.

Just burried my best friend from the same thing. He was in remission for 3 years and when it came back it only took 6 mo. and he was gone at 58. RIP (Heavy smoker)

STOP the cigarettes folks, they kill everyone who smokes them very early! It killed all of the 50's Hollywood stars!

Cancer is always precarious, especially when you were a smoker and drinker. That's what this cancer is about, he said so on Letterman. He might have caught it in time, that's really the question. He looks awful because he can't swallow and hasn't dyed his hair lately. I really think he can get several more years if he lives right.

I wish the family the best, and hope he is okay in the end.

Since when is Oliver Stone in the medical profession? Also, yesterday, while standing in the checkout, I saw a headline on one of the rag magazines....."Michael and Catharine say their good byes to each other." Everyone should wish Michael Douglas the best and remember him in their prayers.

Depends on how you look at it.
My belief is that an illness of any kind is an equalizer, but on the other hand death is the greatest of liberator's from that illness and pain.
Why do people put celebrities on such a huge pedestal. This man has had it made his entire life. He has been blessed with fame and fortune all for just entertaining us, and while it is sad that any one should suffer, why should they not have the same frailties and afflictions as the "little people?"

It's apparent the media (and people like Oliver Stone) thrive on delivering a bleak prognosis. They need to leave him and his family alone. They are going through an overwhelming time right now. I wish him and his family the best and hopefully one day we will hear some good news.

As Sad as it is I feel like he is a Dead Man Walking, I have never put much Stock In Chemo or radiation, I have first hand knowledge that it removes what little quality of life you have left and doesn't give you a day longer to live, and sometimes shortens it, look what Farrah went thru , her last days were Hell on earth. I pray for him to not suffer like my love one did after those God Forsaken Treatments that just ran the bill up..Richard in Florida

Mr. Stone is just upset that Michael didn't make it to to European leg of the movie release. Hey Stone, get over yourself, might be that he had more important things to deal with, you know?? I'm just saying ....

Well, my brother had tonsil and tongue cancer. The doctors said that the surgery had a very high success rate. WRONG. His saliva and taste buds were burnt up from the radiation. He can't swallow and has to be fed through a tube in his stomach. He will NEVER be able to eat again. He was a one time heavy drinker and smoker, but hasn't done either for many many years. So beware all of you smokers and drinkers. This type of cancer is prevalant in these situations. I don't look for Michael Douglas to ever recover from this. I really like his movies but didn't like his cheating on his first wife.

I think this is outrageous that Oliver Stone made these statements. Is he now an oncologist? All the best to Michael Douglas. I hope he'll pull through.

I guess I missed the statement earlier when he said he was a smoker. That's is enough said. Sorry, but in this day and age when you know that smoking leads to lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, heart disease, and everything else, it's a no-brainer.
I've seen far too many smokers die off ... some still denying their habit had anything to do with it. One simple fact, IF YOU SMOKE, YOU ARE KILLING YOURSELF.

I am praying for you Michael. I just wish that all of these people, who can afford it, would seek out people around the world who have the gift to heal the ill. Farah Facett, Patrick Swaze, etc., might still be alive today. Check out the Internet, as I believe I saw on tv about an elderly lady some where in Mexico that has healed so many people by her touch. Please try :-)

Every famous person who was diagnosed with cancer, Patrick Swayze, Paul Newman, Johnny Carson, Ted Kennedy, who said they were not going to die, and the paparazzi made it up, or someone spread the roomer and its not true, or yes they do have it but the prognosis is good, ALL ended up dying within a year after the announcement. Oliver Stone is just telling you what is eventually going to happen. Most of his movies are based on trueth. And that is what Oliver Stone is about, bringing us THE TRUETH. Have a little respect for a phenomenal movie director. My heart goes out to Michael, his lovely wife Cathrine Zeta Jones and his family.

It's not Oliver Stone's place to be telling anyone anything about Michael Douglas' health unless he's had Michael's permission, which I seriously doubt. Unless Stone is now a medical doctor, he needs to keep his mouth shut.
