Inside Courteney Cox and David Arquette's Split

Following the announcement of their separation this week, Courteney Cox and David Arquette are attempting to figure out what's best for their relationship.

"We have agreed to a trial separation that dates back for some time. The reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage," the couple said in a statement. "We remain best friends and responsible parents to our daughter and we still love each other deeply."

Following the announcement, Arquette revealed intimate details of the split to Howard Stern on his radio show Tuesday, telling listeners the couple hadn't had sex in months and that he has since been with another woman.

"[Courteney] knows she's not f***ing me, and she's like, 'Listen, I want you to be able to do whatever you have to do,'" he said. Arquette admitted to sleeping with "the girl in the paper" -- waitress Jasmine Waltz -- "once ... maybe twice."

In the interview, the 'Never Been Kissed' actor insisted he never cheated on his wife before their separation in June, and revealed that it was her idea to separate because she'd grown tired of his behavior after 11 years of marriage.

"[She said] 'I don't wanna be your mother anymore.' I appreciated that. I respected it," he told Stern. "I've been going to therapy. I'm trying to grow up. I'm trying to be true to myself. Trying to figure out myself and my world, as is she."

The actor is hopeful he and the 'Cougar Town' actress can patch things up, but for now, the pair are putting on a united front for their 6-year-old daughter, Coco.

Arquette also discussed with Stern how he broke the news to Coco. "We went to a beach and had a picnic," Arquette said. "[I] explained to her that we're grownups, and a lot of the time when grownups are growing up, they need to figure out their lives." He then added, "Sometimes that takes each other having a little space."

Coco then asked if Cox and Arquette were going to divorce. "I said, 'No, We're not getting a divorce, we're just taking some time apart to get to know ourselves better and get to know what we want out of our mate better.'"

Jennifer Aniston, one of Cox's closest friends, reportedly hopes the pair doesn't rush into a divorce.

"Jen has known for some time that the couple was in trouble but hoped and prayed they would be able to work it out," a friend of the actress told PopEater's Rob Shuter. "No one knows how painful divorce is more than Jen, and she hopes they don't rush into it without exhausting every possibility to stay together."

The actors met on the set of the 1995 film 'Scream.' They married in 1999. They are set to appear together in 'Scream 4,' which is due out in April of next year.
