Ellen's Dilemma: Promote Vince Vaughn's Film After 'Gay' Dustup?

Universal may have agreed to remove the now-infamous "gay" line from the trailer for Vince Vaughn's new movie 'The Dilemma,' but I'm hearing that this concession won't stop influential TV hosts like
Ellen DeGeneres and Anderson Cooper from giving the film the promotional cold shoulder.
"Ellen is a hero for equality. No way would she agree to have Vince on her show to promote a film that still hasn't removed a homophobic scene," a TV insider tells me. "If Universal thinks cutting the offensive five-second clip from the trailer but ignoring that it remains in the film would fix anything they are very much mistaken."
It's not just Ellen that plans to take a stand against 'The Dilemma.' Sources tell me CNN anchor Copper, who initially raised concerns about a bad gay joke he saw in a film trailer (he never directly mentioned 'The Dilemma' or Vaughn) while appearing as a guest on Ellen's show, also plans to give neither the film nor its stars any promotion on his CNN show or on any of the lighter-fare programs he frequently guest-hosts.
After getting flak for his '60 Minutes' interview with Eminem, a TV source tells me, "The last thing in the world he wants to do is open himself up to more criticism for promoting this film," adding that a Vaughn interview would reek of hypocrisy.
As PopEater reported, after criticism from the media and the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), Universal removed a trailer for the film, in which Vaughn's character calls electric cars "gay" twice. The studio cut the line and put out a new trailer.
So far, Vince himself has remained silent about the gay slur storm, however, one person I'm told who would be happy to hear his side of the story is FOX News' marquee star Bill O'Reilly.
Good for you, Ellen!

I used to be a big Ellen fan but this is outrageous! It is an expression, it is not a gay slur. Ellen, get over it before you lose your loyal fans! This PC garb needs to end already!

It's almost like the twin robots on the Transformers 2 movie.....Many African Americans claimed these characters were offensive....... Really?? Society gets their rocks off making fun of other people & making lewd & inappropriate jokes.... Start with some home training to change the way society thinks & reacts....

Training at home? The parents in most homes are dumber than the kids they are training.
Give me a break..god this country is a joke. Who cares how they used the word gay !!! We are the only country that's going back instead of moving forward. Get a life people..stop being so FRICKEN GAY !!!

The world would be a far better place if people would be this adamant about standing up against those who trash God or Christianity. In God's eyes, all are created equal.

Gay....there is no such a thing as a gay person. There is no gay gene. Yes, there are people who have same-sex attraction but why does that make them gay? They are heterosexuals that happen to be attracted to the same sex. I am tired of dealing with the Ellen's of this world and homosexuals...when gays and lesbians don't even exist

Jeff - I concur!
They do exist; get a dictionary. Maybe, you are delusional. Or perhaps you are in personal denial.
Do you see what's happening here? How did this small group of people gain so much power? If the movie contained a Christian insult, and Christians protested, we would be doubly insulted, in fact, they would add even more anti-Christian insults just to stick it to us. But someone even uses the word 'gay' and the world is up in arms. This is getting pretty scary.

Shuter is a pain in the A.....you people try to find a problem where one doesn't exist just to have something to say. How about interviewing real actors, directors, writers about the things they're working on. There are plenty of movies and good TV shows you could write about. Gay happens to mean happy, fun....Get the Hell over all of that hypersensitive political correctness...I'm so tired of it all and TV and internet media inflames and causes problems where there aren't any. Just start reading newspapers folks at least you'll be sure to get some intelligent information about the world.

I agree with you. Since when did happy (gay) turn negative and being a sexual preference. give me a break, and who cares. So the real thing is what... a person has to censor what they say on tv and then have it censored again for them?
It really would be so gay if Ellen held this against Vince Vaughn.

Just because the word "gay" has been incorporated and accepted over the years into our culture to mean something is lame or that something sucks - does not make it right. I don't think most people would accept the terms, "that's so Down Syndrome" or "that's so Irish" used as negative connotations.
It doesn't take much effort to be kind and empathetic, does it?
