The 'Whip My Hair' video is here, and Willow Smith has transcended from Jada and Will Smith's 9-year-old kiddo to a legitimate star. Seriously -- the video stacks up to the incredibly catchy, Rihanna-sounding song with killer outfits, fun classroom dance pieces and, yes, tons of hair whipping -- with paint!
The video was directed by Ray Kay, who also helmed the sensational shoots for Lady Gaga's 'Poker Face' and Justin Bieber's 'Baby.'
Watch the 'Whip My Hair' video:
Kay told Rap-Up of the video: "I'm really happy to be involved with a project that has such a positive message as this one, and I'm certain people that are watching the video will feel inspired to develop their own individuality and freedom and express their own art after seeing Willow in this video."
In the month since the song hit the airwaves, 'Whip My Hair' has been adopted as an unofficial anthem for pre-teen girls across the country. Almost right out of the gate, several extremely talented kids began devising choreography for the song and uploaded their wizardry to the web. And over the weekend, one enterprising video editor took a feel-good song about hair on 'Sesame Street' and turned it into an on-point mashup of the hit song.
Ever heard of Michael Jackson or Stevie Wonder? Just on the strength of this (admittedly cute) song, I can't really tell one way or another if she's in that rarefied league (i.e. an exceptional prodigy) or if she's 'merely' talented, but you'd be surprised at how many kids under the age of ten have voices and talent beyond their years.
I think Will is actually pretty amazing! He is a knock out actor and is very entertaining when he raps. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Will and Jada raising a familly that is allowed to pursue their dreams. Also, if you remember, in Will's music, there was never any violence or foul language. I am certian he will keep Willow in line. I say, good for her!!! If any of you had the means and had a child that really wanted to pursue their dream, I am sure you would try to help them!!
It was an interesting video. I think she can do better than that, but it does have a good message for kids her age. Her voice is awesome too. For all of those hating on her, you know what? She's 9 years old and having fun. Who cares who her parents are? They are not the ones singing their hearts out there, she is. So give the credit where it's due. Just be glad she's not doing some of the things other girls at her age are doing. She's a kid after all, lay off her already.
The Fresh Princess is trying for the throne. Can you expect less from daddy's little girl? She inherited more than looks from him, evidently. Give her a chance to show if her style will match for this generation what her father did for ours.
what a bright little girl!! i actually thought she was my age (13) when i looked at this!! BUT SHE'S ONLY 9! wearing tips and all of that.....wow......i sing 2 but....no 1 has found me yet. i hope someday i will have a video great as that. :]
This little girl is headed for some TOUGH TIMES! She needs to be treated like a kid and not an adult. She is always BEHAVING AS AN ADULT. It is really SAD!
What makes you think Will was involved, Jada has money. I say if they had anything to do with this CONGRATULATIONS it was enjoyable and they have a right to spend their money as they wish...
Very cute young lady...too bad her parents are 'selling her out' so young :(
Her voice is very good- but the song already gives me a headache (how many times do I need (or want) to hear 'I whip my hair...?')
The Vid does nothing for me, either...
Oh, well- I guess if I COULD put my kid out there (like Will CAN)...then it would probably be tough to tell my kid to shut up and wait til she's ready...and older (and not just because I COULD make it happen). You know what I'm sayin?
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos

I like the song very much but-The only thing wrong with it is she says "I whip my hair" way to many times. Other then that the song is great.
