Levi Johnston: I Don't Need to Be Qualified to Be Mayor

While on 'The View,' Levi Johnston tried and failed miserably to explain his candidacy for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. He added that there are really no qualifications to hold Sarah Palin's old gig.

When asked by Barbara Walters what his qualifications for mayor were, Johnston pointed out that the job doesn't call for any and that his lack of experience shouldn't be an impediment. "Qualifications for mayor, there really are none," he said, to several loud guffaws from the audience.

"You've got to live in city limits for one year. You don't need a high school diploma, which I'm working on anyway."

Later, Whoopi Goldberg asked Johnston to give details on his platform, but he came up short again.

"At this point in time, I couldn't tell you," he said, adding that he only announced his run for mayor a month ago and hasn't yet planned a strategy.

"But usually when people say they're running for mayor, they've thought about it before they actually run," Sherri Shepherd countered.

In August, Johnston's manager confirmed Johnston's plans to run for the office as part of a reality TV show and insisted he was serious about it.

Johnston said the only real qualification is to live in the city limits for a year before the election. He believes he's as qualified as any other candidate, saying he thinks it's important to listen to the people and their concerns. Watch:

No qualification needed to be a mayor??? Maybe that's why so many cities are lose to being bankrupt. What a totally ridiculous stateent to make.

I agree, the press keeps this idiot in the spotlight. And the ironic thing about it, for all his bashing of Sarah Palin, he would never have been heard of if it had not been for Sarah Palin. I get a serious case of heartburn every time I see or hear this guy.

No, but this strategy (or lack of) worked for obama and he never even proved he was a citizen. If no qualifications and no experience can get you in the white house, why wouldn't it get you in a low-level position like mayor?

There must be no qualifications for the job if Sarah Palin can get it. She has no education to speak of, and no prior experience running anything but a basketball or hockey game, so why shouldn't Levi have a chance? Bristol Palin, his baby-mamma, is appearing on Dancing With the Stars and she is neither a dancer nor a star. In fact, she is the least qualified of all the contestants they have had on the show yet, so there is really no reason to bash Levi. Apparently, Alaskan's don't care who represents them.

Russell, I couldn't have said it better.

My earlier post did not go through, so I'm going to try again. Sarah Palin has no education to speak of? Check out the facts. She is a graduate of the University of Idaho, and before that attended the University of Hawaii at Hilo, as well as two other colleges in Hawaii and Idaho. I don't like Sarah Palin or her politics, but I hate it when people don't get their facts straight!

1st of all - THE VIEW is SUCH a stupid show hurting for guests - they'd invite " Weird AL Yancovich " on there - so they get Levi on there and practically laugh at his admission tha HE can be mayor - but gas no HS diploma . Bristol is a stunning , beautiful girl with a beautiful son - Levi neglects THAT -and In sure with Sarah as her mother - she'll make it prety hard for Levi to see the baby . To MOCK Bristol and the Palins in his pop video was low - leaving Bristol AGAINwas low - his Playgirl layout was repulssive ( don't worry - didn't see it ) -- NOW he wants to go to Wasilla and be Mayor ? It's funny how when Levi was considered a loyal member of the Palin clan, he was considered an uneducated woodchuck. Now that he is knocking Palin, the liberals love him.
