Although he famously supported President Barack Obama during the 2008 campaign and has long been a champion of liberal politics, Americana rocker John Mellencamp doesn't think Sarah Palin is as out there as her foes make her out to be, he told AP."She's pushing the right buttons," Mellencamp said. "You can't be stupid and do that."
The 59-year-old singer of 'Our Country' and 'Pink Houses' fame thinks people are quick to judge Palin "because she says things and winks."

Funny, that people on the left believe any and all iodiotic statements movie stars make, so long as it falls within their beliefs. But, when a star says something to the contrary, then that particular "idol" is an idiot, needs a psychiatrist, drinks too much, blah, blah, blah. Mean people.

As a long time fan of Mr. Mellencamp, I must disagree with him on his analysis of Mrs. Palin. She is not bright or savy. Her performance on live interviews proves that she can't think on her feet whatsoever. She has reached her peak of success and popularity -- not because of her intelligence -- but because of the stupidity of a large segment of the American population. I suppose we should give her a little credit for not screwing that up.

Of course you ignore the large number of underintelligent members of congress who are little more than rubber stamps for their party. And yet they get elected repeatedly.
I think that people are wrong about Sarah Palin also. She is pretty and perky, just like Katy Couric. (ironic isn't it.) And people doubt her intellect. And it is hard for people to accept someone who does'nt abort a inperfect child, a hunter a politician who is not slick,a large family and no matter the controvery she has a smile on. In two years I think she has proved who she is.

Like our president who can't speak in public without a teleprompter, referes to Navy "corpse-men" and thinks we have 57 states? I'm not a huge fan of Sarah Palin, but I do believe John Mellencamp's song writing reflects a good view of American life.

John - underintelligent? I guess you fall in that category. Palin is no different than Rush, Beck or Limbaugh. They make a lot of money off the "underintelligent" followers that are to dumb to figure out they are being played by people that really are more con like than intellectual. They don't really care about the country, just the almighty dollar.
