Rod Stewart is opening up about the daughter he gave up for adoption, revealing he was "absolutely stone broke" when Sarah Streeter was born and had no other option. "She was put up for adoption when I was 17 or 18, I think," the rocker said on 'The Joy Behar Show' Thursday.
Stewart has recently been in contact with his daughter, now 46, following the deaths of her adoptive parents.
"Since her mom and dad have died, we've tried to come together and be close together, and it's working out pretty well," Stewart said. "I never felt like I was her dad, because I didn't take her to school, change her nappies, there was no paternal thing there, but I'm trying."
The rocker, whose wife Penny is pregnant with the couple's second child, has seven children, including Streeter, his eldest.
Streeter is slowly getting to know her father through phone calls and family get-togethers.
"There's no anger there," Streeter told UK's Daily Mail. "I never was angry about what happened really, just sad. But now I'm older; I see things differently and realize that it has been as difficult for him over the years as it has been for me. Now we're at the start of a new chapter, and that's wonderful."
As a woman who was adopted at birth, I understand Ms Streeter's sadness. I was adopted by loving parents who gave me everything they could give including love. I had a great life but I would have loved to have known my biological family as well. I pray one day I will know where I came from and why I was put up for adoption. Much luck and happiness to Ms Streeter and Rob Stewart.
Lee, if it could give you any piece, though I do not know why you were adopted, most babies that are, is for one reason and one reason alone. The parents of the child are putting their selfishness of wanting to keep you aside and thinking of Your best interest and knows that you would be better off with a family that has the ability and means to support you financial, as well as love you. If only love could raise a baby, more people would keep them, but there is such much expense. If you want to see if you can find them, try the adoption site's (sorry, don't know any of the names) on line that are for both the child and the parents searching for one another. Don't think for one moment that they just didn't want you.
Rod has been famous and rich for how many years now???? Why didn't he go looking for her, with all his money he could have hired the best...He's nothing but a narsisist.
Wow, where do I start. My sister (now 46) was adopted at 6 months into our family that already had 5 boys. Mom & Dad really wanted a girl. We told her all her life that she was adopted but NEVER threw it in her face. We supported her when (because of medical issues)she found someone to "find" her birth mother. We always told her that her birth mom loved her so much that she gave her (indirectly) to us. She did find her mother and what a reunion it was. Her mother got pregnant @ 17 by a sailor. Her mother had been trying for over 30 years to find my sister but the "FILES" were sealed prohibiting her access. Now my sister has 2 other sisters @ 1 brother and of course, a birth mother. My family never thought we would lose my sister if she found her mother rather we embraced meeting her
YES, EVERYONE ALWAYS WANTS TO KNOW THEIR BIOLOGICAL PARENTS. IT'S ONLY NATURAL! THESE PEOPLE WHO ARE USING DONOR'S (LIKE GAY PARENTS) ARE VERY SELFISH. GAY PEOPLE CAN'T HAVE CHILDREN AND THEREFORE SHOULDN'T!

Most people give up their kids because they are too poor or too young to be able to care for a baby. It is more selfish to keep a child that you are unable to care for than to try and find them a good home. Rod was too immature at 17 and so was the mother. Besides, look at how many of the children of the rich and famous end up lost and self destructive, the kid was better off.
I don't think a woman of 46 needs a Daddy, because her adoptive parents died. I'm sure she's mature enough to carry on with her life. Sounds to me like Rod Stewart is getting some pretty big guilt pangs and trying to do a quick fix to satisfy his conscience. You can raise a child if you're broke. That's a cop out.
Yes, of course, the parents who raised her were her real parents. But it says that they are dead, so there is nothing wrong with her seeking out her bio parents.
She doesn't need a life, just ole rich Daddy to break her off with some dough, that's the least he can do since he was stone broke like he claims, take of your child now, at that age she is still his responsibilty!
She does have a life; the only change is that now her life also includes a natural father and syblings. Finding her natural father didn't detract from her life, it added to it.
klaw, at the age of 46 (Rod's bio's daughter's age now), unless she is physically or mentally ill, she is no one's "responsibility" but her own, (or her husband's if married or her children's, if they are adults, and she is sick or in need for some reason).
Who said she does not have a life? What I read and understand is that he learned that her parents ahd both died and he made contact with her and is trying to be a friend to her and her family. Why on earth do so many of you think that he should throw money at her to make things right? It is too bad that any of this has been made public, it is not news as some will claim...

Do you really want to know your Biological family? I adopted my daughter, I know her bio parents, and believe me, she will not want to meet them.

I was seventeen when my son was born. I never even concidered putting him up for adoption. And we were so poor we couldn't even pay attention.
His name is "Rod" Stewart...not Rob.
Was he stone broke, or just plain stoned?

Stone broke? He was probably just plain stoned!
