Rod Stewart is opening up about the daughter he gave up for adoption, revealing he was "absolutely stone broke" when Sarah Streeter was born and had no other option. "She was put up for adoption when I was 17 or 18, I think," the rocker said on 'The Joy Behar Show' Thursday.
Stewart has recently been in contact with his daughter, now 46, following the deaths of her adoptive parents.
"Since her mom and dad have died, we've tried to come together and be close together, and it's working out pretty well," Stewart said. "I never felt like I was her dad, because I didn't take her to school, change her nappies, there was no paternal thing there, but I'm trying."
The rocker, whose wife Penny is pregnant with the couple's second child, has seven children, including Streeter, his eldest.
Streeter is slowly getting to know her father through phone calls and family get-togethers.
"There's no anger there," Streeter told UK's Daily Mail. "I never was angry about what happened really, just sad. But now I'm older; I see things differently and realize that it has been as difficult for him over the years as it has been for me. Now we're at the start of a new chapter, and that's wonderful."
Rod Stewart was not a Rock Star when they gave the baby up for adoption. If you'd try doing a little research, at one point before Rod got into music, he was a grave digger! He had no other prospects and I can't imagine that the job paid very much. It's a tough decision, but I'm sure that they were thinking about the welfare of the child.
Lord, I can't imagine what it would be like finding out that Rod Stewart is your father. It would be either like winning the lottery or facing a nightmare! I just hope this lady had a wonderful life up to this point. I hope her parents were good people.
OMG..., I'm glad that I'm not your child. Who wants to have a parent that is going to steal? Would that be what I would have to do to get fed once I was able to hit the streets, if you were my parent? Shame on you to think this would be the right way to raise a child and teach them this would be okay. No child would want to live this way. Think of them....NOT YOU. What a low life you are.
I cannot believe you people have never heard the EXPRESSION "Beg, Borrow or Steal" before. It is an exaggerated expression that means the person would do anything in his power to prevent something from happening. In this case he would do anything to prevent losing the child. Don't take everything so literally - by doing so you are being as judgemental as the people who trash Rod for making this decision.
Rod was not a rock star at 17, just another teenager who made a big mistake. It takes so much love and courage to admit your child would have a better life through adoption. He and the child's birth mother put the child's needs first and blessed this child with a good home and great parents. It is so sad that so many American teenagers are not considering this option, welfare checks don't equal love and good parenting.
Don't judge until you have walked in those shoes! I put a child up for adoption when I was 19 because he was concieved from a violent crime...rape! I can only hope that if you are in that same situation you would do the same thing! Judge not unless you are willing to be judged...and on your judgement day pray that the good lord judges in your favor!
@Caryl Thank you for having the courage to say the TRUTH! Too many females these days allowing themselves to pop out kids who are nothing more than "paychecks" -- that the rest of us end up paying for. I would gladly help pay for these losers to get their tubes tied instead of allowing them to continue to abuse the welfare system!!

Sherrie,
You're a brave and strong woman for giving that child life. I respect you for that.
This article talks about Rod giving up his child...what about the Mother of that child? Where is she? Nothing was mentioned about the Mother????

The article is not about the mother, but about "why Rod gave up the child".

What are you smoking this morning, Gail? There is no baby up for adoption. This is something Rod did 46 years ago and is now an adult.
Ummm shes not a baby if you paid attention. She's probably older than you. Shes 46yrs old now.

Right on, Daria. They pop out babies and each one has a different father. No morals.
