Rod Stewart is opening up about the daughter he gave up for adoption, revealing he was "absolutely stone broke" when Sarah Streeter was born and had no other option. "She was put up for adoption when I was 17 or 18, I think," the rocker said on 'The Joy Behar Show' Thursday.
Stewart has recently been in contact with his daughter, now 46, following the deaths of her adoptive parents.
"Since her mom and dad have died, we've tried to come together and be close together, and it's working out pretty well," Stewart said. "I never felt like I was her dad, because I didn't take her to school, change her nappies, there was no paternal thing there, but I'm trying."
The rocker, whose wife Penny is pregnant with the couple's second child, has seven children, including Streeter, his eldest.
Streeter is slowly getting to know her father through phone calls and family get-togethers.
"There's no anger there," Streeter told UK's Daily Mail. "I never was angry about what happened really, just sad. But now I'm older; I see things differently and realize that it has been as difficult for him over the years as it has been for me. Now we're at the start of a new chapter, and that's wonderful."
Best decision Mr. Stewart ever made. Shes probably the most grounded and the only one never in rehab. Mr. Stewart you may want to consider doing the same for the little ones, that way you can focus on a "career" that died in the 70s
I think it's great that she found out who her parents are. That doesn't mean she is leaving her adopted parents behind. She needs to know who she is. Luckily, her birth father is a millionaire who wants to be a part of her life. She has the best from both worlds, her adoptive parents and her biological parents.
I'm 47, was adopted soon after birth, and grew up in a normal home with all the standard issues. My Mom and Dad loved me, sheltered me and raised me to be a decent human being. That does not ERASE the natural curiosity that have as to my origins. The very first thing that ever happened to me was that my Mom and Dad did not want to be burdened by my existence. Ouch. But the SECOND thing to happen to me was that a new Mom and Dad asked for the burden of loving and raising me. And they still love me to this day. Pretty damn cool, I'd say.
With all respect to you, if you have not met your parent(s) then you don't know why they gave you up. Your biological mother may not have had a choice. Her parents may have insisted that she give you up. Your birth mom gave you life. You should appreciate her for that.
With respect to you, If you have never met your parent(s) you don't know why they gave you up. Your father may have denied you and mistreated your birth mom and she didn't know what to do. Maybe your birth mom's parents made her give you up. It is hard to give a child up that has grown inside of you for 9 months knowing that you will never see it again.
Rich, you are allowed to your opinion that adoption is wrong, but I do disagree with you. Adopted parents may not share the same genes, but they indeed can be a real parent to these children. Is your solution to let children grow up in an environment, such as the one poster that said she would steal to keep her child? One that will sit on their butts popping out kids for welfare money? Even worse someone keep the child that may abuse it or murder it, because they don't want it around. I was adopted at birth and my adoptive parents are Indeed my Real parents. I thank my REAL parents for loving me and giving me a good home and I thank my biological parents for putting my needs ahead of theirs and putting me up for adoption.
i was adopted by two wonderful and loving people, but most people are curious about where they came from.if you're not adopted you really don't know what it feels like.i never seeked out my biological parents because i didn't want to hurt my dad in particular.my mom offered to help me find them, but i haven't yet.it's up to the individual
As an adopted child, I respect Rod Stewart for having enough character or listening to whomever directed him to do the right thing for this child. As an adult I would hope she realizes he was acting unselfishly (even if he didn't know it at the time). She was lucky to have two people who wanted a child and loved her. They will always be her parents. Ultimately, It's nice to have the opportunity to meet the biological parents and have your medical history for your own children. Congratulations!! If parents can have more than one child & love them all~~so can children love more than one set of parents.

He did that child a favor, can you imagine how much drug use was probably going on in his life. At 46 years old she better get a grip.

From a fellow adoptee, well said Bryan.

Adoption is wrong. Adopted parents are never the childs real parents.

Thank God you have no children if your answer to keeping it was stealing.
Everyone is ganging up on you. Don't pay attention to them.
