Rod Stewart is opening up about the daughter he gave up for adoption, revealing he was "absolutely stone broke" when Sarah Streeter was born and had no other option. "She was put up for adoption when I was 17 or 18, I think," the rocker said on 'The Joy Behar Show' Thursday.
Stewart has recently been in contact with his daughter, now 46, following the deaths of her adoptive parents.
"Since her mom and dad have died, we've tried to come together and be close together, and it's working out pretty well," Stewart said. "I never felt like I was her dad, because I didn't take her to school, change her nappies, there was no paternal thing there, but I'm trying."
The rocker, whose wife Penny is pregnant with the couple's second child, has seven children, including Streeter, his eldest.
Streeter is slowly getting to know her father through phone calls and family get-togethers.
"There's no anger there," Streeter told UK's Daily Mail. "I never was angry about what happened really, just sad. But now I'm older; I see things differently and realize that it has been as difficult for him over the years as it has been for me. Now we're at the start of a new chapter, and that's wonderful."
It must feel great to be given the opportunity to right your wrong. Seems like Rod has been given that opportunity and is "trying". I hope his daughter has that fairy tale ending, and lives happily ever after.
It had to be a joint decision to put their daughter up for adoption. Her biological mother had to make a tough decision as well. We don't know what she was going through at the time or where she was at in life at that time. I am sure it was a difficult decision for both of them, but at that point in their lives they thought it to be the best decision.
I am not an adopted child or parent but adoptive parents are real parents. It takes a strong person to raise anothers child but it takes an even stronger person to know they cant give a child what that child needs and chooses to let that child have a better life.
There are a number of reasons why children are given up for adoption, but years ago there was only two........minor forced by parents whom had the say.......and those who were raped.........again mostly at the parents say. It is so easy for us who have never been in the position to say what we would do, but I have admiration for those who chose to give the children a better life than what they felt they could. And the parents who adopted these children have a loving heart.
I applaud people who have the courage and decency to put a child up for adoption. It must be the hardest thing on earth. To all of you put a child up for adoption for good reasons- you did good! Life is never perfect for any of us.
Some people just dont get it. They think having a child means to make a little extra room for a a baby bed in the living room.. The facts are, it takes an adult or two, with good jobs to raise a child. Some people think the child will be fine as long as it is with loved ones. So not true,, it takes a lot more than love to take care of a baby. Some people just dont get it. A child needs a lot more than love.
Some of you need to watch 'Teen Mom'. Teenagers have no business raising children, but today in America, you can be irresponsible and make your neighbors pay for it. And those of you who would steal and NOT give up your child for adoption? That's why our prisons are full to the brim, because people with no morals are having children and thinking of themselves. If you have no financial or other means to raise a child, think about adoption.
I think putting up a child for adoption is wonderful if you feel the child would have a better life elsewhere. These two people have the chance to find additions to their existing family, not replacements for them. I think it's great and wish them the best.
Some people just dont get it. For Rod to give away his child when he was 17, took a huge amount of love. A person who takes home a baby, knowing they cant take PROPER care of, is selfish in the worst way. Rod did the right thing back then, and is doing the right thing now.
get over yourselves people!! you dont know what you would do in that situation. and for the one who said why would you want to meet your birth parents, why wouldnt you????? i gave my daughter up at 17, and sorry, but love dosent keep a roof over your head and food in your stomach. giving up your own flesh and blood so that they can have a better life is the most unselfish thing a parent could do. so, dont go throwing stones unless you have been there, because contrary to popular belief, its the hardest thing in the world to ever do. mr. big shot, you dont know how his life was then, some people really have some nerve!
Adopted children should have the right to know who their biological parents are. It is importent to know their families medical histories especially as they get older. If they form a relationship with them as well good for them.
Relinquishing Streeter for adoption, whether he realizes it or not, most likely contributed greatly to his success. I hope he feels at least a little indebted to her because there is a lot she missed.
HE COULD'VE LOOKED FOR HER SOONER THAN NOW. I WAS ADOPTED AND LOOKED FOR AND FOUND MY BIOLOGICAL FAMILY. WATCH OUT WHAT YOU WISH FOR, BECAUSE SOMETIMES WHEN YOU FIND IT, IT AIN'T SO GREAT. I'M SURE A COUPLE MILLION IN BACK CHILD SUPPORT WOULD HELP THIS POOR YOUNG LADY ALONG. HOW ABOUT IT POP STEWART?
Brandy, I wish more people would be as unselfish as you were. I worked in healthcare and was saddened by the environments that many teenagers raised their children in.
Hey retarded morons "beg, borrow and steal" is just a phrase not to be taken literly. Are you all that fuc*ing stupid not to realize that??...Wow did this chick hit the biological parent jackpot!!

"17 or 18, I think"? If I ever put up a child for adoption, I would know exactly what date and how old I was. What a loser.
