Celine Dion Gives Birth to Twin Boys
Celine Dion and husband Rene Angelil are doubly joyful this weekend, welcoming fraternal twin boys who were delivered via C-section on Saturday morning in West Palm Beach, Fla., joining big brother Rene-Charles, age 9.
The babies have not yet been named, according to
People.com. "Celine is resting now and they plan to discuss what to name the boys when she wakes up," her spokesperson says. "René-Charles has been to the hospital to visit his brothers, and is just so excited they are here."
Dion's new sons were born at 5 lbs., 10 oz., and 5 lbs., 4 oz., and are premature but healthy. They will reportedly spend a few days in neonatal intensive care, a common procedure for newborn twins, who often arrive before their due date.
At a press conference outside St. Mary's Medical Center, Dion's longtime obstetrician talked about the successful delivery -- and what the babies look like.
Dr. Ronald Ackerman (whose son, Dr. Joshua Ackerman also assisted in the delivery) explained that the surgery to deliver the babies went as expected -- with the first boy born at 11:11 a.m. and the second born at 11:12 a.m. -- and said that both twins were born with a "good amount" of hair.
The Canadian chanteuse, 42, has been open in recent years about her struggle to conceive. She revealed in May that she was pregnant, after undergoing a sixth attempt at in-vitro fertilization.
In February, the singer opened up to
Oprah about
her miscarriage of an earlier pregnancy.
Dion announced she was pregnant in August of 2009 using an embryo frozen eight years before, in 2001, when she and husband Rene had their first son. Sadly, she suffered a miscarriage shortly after.
"It's life. You know? A lot of people go through this, but it's not being told because it's not in newspaper. But with us, as you know, it's like, sometimes news are like mercury," she told Winfrey.
Dion says she didn't come out right away with the miscarriage news because the initial reports of her pregnancy were still fresh, and she didn't want to make such an announcement so fast.
"They said that I was pregnant, and a couple of days after, we were not pregnant again. We didn't want to feel like we were playing yo-yo. 'I'm pregnant. I'm not pregnant. I'm pregnant. I'm not pregnant.' So we didn't want to do this thing. But we did have a miscarriage," she said.

I had read previously that the c-section had not been scheduled. So, perhaps something changed...like maybe one baby was turned wrong, or one baby's heart rate started to decline. There are medical reasons for a c-section, you know?
They have C sections to get a tummy tuck afterwards. Heidi Klum did an interview in a magazine one time and said she has C sections to get the tummy tuck. That's how she could appear on the runway 2 weeks after giving birth.
Cher...you're kidding, right? C-sections are no picnic, you frigging imbecile. I have had 3. Have you ever thought that it was, oh.... I don't know....necessary for the health of the babies and the mother? You are a really stupid person.
Some celebrities are so nice that you wish them many good things. I love Celine Dion and am very happy for her and her family.

Its nice to read good news for once, why do we have to have bad news all of time.. Get a life, she's a celebrity and everyone or most of us are interested in the twins. I am glad they are healthy and being well taken care of. In twin births, since I used to work in a hospital with newborns, they have to take them C-section because of safety or health issues. You doom and gloom people get on my last nerve. Be happy for both of them. At least they're together and happy to be that way. Creating a family and having a career is not easy. You're probably on welfare.
God Bless you all on the birth of your sons and brother i am very happy for all of you.

Congratulations to Rene and Celine I know their prayers were answered and wishing them all the very best. If they want more who's to say NO? At least they love the ones they have, not like some parents. Best of everything to that family.

So happy that both babies were born healthy although premature. Great weight for twins who were born early. She is 42 - I was 40 when I had my last child, so I will be 58 when he grads in 2 more years. Big deal - we are just as close as my daughter who is 26 - (29 when I had her) - I started late in life. lol - Why can't some people just say congrats to someone having a baby instead of throwing their personal B.S. into the mix.

Yes Celine has a fantastic voice that is not to be disputed. The fact that her husband is the age he is is not fair to these twin boys. Its a selfish act to knowingly have children you know you won't be there to bring up. I don't care how much money you have its just not fair, simple as that. I do wish them well but the facts don't change.

@Beverly - How do you know how long her husband will live? The statement you made was idiotic and shows how jealous and resentful you are.
My husband and I adopted a grandchild who is now 15. I am watching him making his breakfast as we're getting ready to take him to get his learner's permit today. Oy teaching another teenager to drive Just kidding, I'm excited. I am 62 years old, my husband is 86. We have been raising this amazing young man since he was born. Do the math. On his facebook he has on his profile " Living with the two best parents a kid could ever ask for." He has never known his father, he left after he was 18 mos old, his mother is in Ca. being one with the universe or something very "spiritual" like that. They were in their twenties when they decided parenthood wasn't their thing. I spent last weekend doing make up for and taking him and his friends to our local Zombiecon. I stayed downtown all night with them keeping in contact by cell phone to chaperone. Until after midnight OH MY!! The younger parents were all too busy to take them. Now tell me again how selfish being older parents is. Congrats to Celine and Rene parenting a child is about loving them not about your age. I run circles around the youger mothers at school, thank you very much!!!!
Beverly Rene the father will be here as long as God allows. He will be a wonderful & loving father as he has always been with Rene Charles. There are plenty of "younger" dads that don't stick around after the birth of their children & never support or care for them leaving it to the mom & grandparents who are "older". So WHAT IS YOUR POINT????????? I wish these two loving & deserving parents many years of love & happiness. God Bless the family.
You guys are idiots for sure! What makes you think Rene won't be here to see the children grow up.
Are you a psychic? Is he going to die soon?
Age does not matter if you want children and love them.
I know of a lot of people who did not start having children til there 30's, 40's and yes even 50's and even a couple in their 60's and they are still around with now grown children.
I don't know what your mentality is at regarding age but in my part of the country many folks live in there hundred's and even more in their mid to late 90's.
I personally did not get married until I was almost 30 and had my first child at almost 33 and hubby was almost 38 and there are a ton of other people that don't start having them until they are in there 40's so don't understand your stupidity.
I'd rather see a much more mature adult having children than the immature teens, young adults in there 20's who think they are all grown up and have kids they abuse and neglect.
You don't have to worry about her old husband. He has one foot on a banana peel & the other in the grave. She'll remary after he croaks, & the kids will have a new daddy, younger than Dion..
