Celine Dion Gives Birth to Twin Boys

Celine Dion and husband Rene Angelil are doubly joyful this weekend, welcoming fraternal twin boys who were delivered via C-section on Saturday morning in West Palm Beach, Fla., joining big brother Rene-Charles, age 9.

The babies have not yet been named, according to People.com. "Celine is resting now and they plan to discuss what to name the boys when she wakes up," her spokesperson says. "René-Charles has been to the hospital to visit his brothers, and is just so excited they are here."

Dion's new sons were born at 5 lbs., 10 oz., and 5 lbs., 4 oz., and are premature but healthy. They will reportedly spend a few days in neonatal intensive care, a common procedure for newborn twins, who often arrive before their due date.

At a press conference outside St. Mary's Medical Center, Dion's longtime obstetrician talked about the successful delivery -- and what the babies look like.

Dr. Ronald Ackerman (whose son, Dr. Joshua Ackerman also assisted in the delivery) explained that the surgery to deliver the babies went as expected -- with the first boy born at 11:11 a.m. and the second born at 11:12 a.m. -- and said that both twins were born with a "good amount" of hair.

The Canadian chanteuse, 42, has been open in recent years about her struggle to conceive. She revealed in May that she was pregnant, after undergoing a sixth attempt at in-vitro fertilization.

In February, the singer opened up to Oprah about her miscarriage of an earlier pregnancy.

Dion announced she was pregnant in August of 2009 using an embryo frozen eight years before, in 2001, when she and husband Rene had their first son. Sadly, she suffered a miscarriage shortly after.

"It's life. You know? A lot of people go through this, but it's not being told because it's not in newspaper. But with us, as you know, it's like, sometimes news are like mercury," she told Winfrey.

Dion says she didn't come out right away with the miscarriage news because the initial reports of her pregnancy were still fresh, and she didn't want to make such an announcement so fast.

"They said that I was pregnant, and a couple of days after, we were not pregnant again. We didn't want to feel like we were playing yo-yo. 'I'm pregnant. I'm not pregnant. I'm pregnant. I'm not pregnant.' So we didn't want to do this thing. But we did have a miscarriage," she said.

I had twins nearly 24 years ago and had an emergency c-section because my water broke. My understanding is that a c-secion is fairly standard with twins. I'm not sure but I think one of mine would have been breech too. I'm glad the babies and the parents are doing well.

Celine is a sweet girl and loves her first son the way a mother should love a child so Im sure she has more than enough love for her new baby boys too..I think its wonderful that someone who really wanted children didn*t give up and had them unlike some people who have babies just to get checks each month to spend on themselves or to abuse these poor babies and they wind up dead.. so dont all you people critize her for wanting children.. You sound like trash to me too and are the ones who abuse little children then throw them away.. God Bless you Celine and your beautiful family..

So, most of you believe that if you can afford it to take care of babies, have as many as you want...in other words, the hell with the over population, I jsut want to do what I want. Yep, let's just keep having more babies and maybe by 2020 we can run out of resources for food, water, and homes. When we you all stop being so me, me, me centered?

Most deliveries twins and tripplets ect...are born through C-Section for better protection and delivery of the babies.

Congratulations to Celine, Rene and big brother Rene-Charles. Very happy for all of them. And as far as age, what difference does it make how old they are anyway? My only son was in his 40's and wife in 30's when they had there first child. Later in mid 40's and 30's have another child. So who saids they won't live long enough to take care of them? My daughter in law was born when her Mom was 45 and now she's 85, healthy and looks like she's in may be the same age as me and I'm 70. It's how we take care of ourselves. And at least Celine and Rene are healty, so far as we know. And if not, it's up to them anyway not you or I to say or tell them what to do. As long as the children are taken care of. Not like most who don't care.

Congratulations to this wonderful, happy couple. We should all be so blessed. As for why she had a C-section, who cares??? The important thing is that everyone is alive and healthy. If you can't say something good about such wonderful news, go back to bed and shut up!!!

Haven't we been hearing about Celine Dion's womb for about 10 years now? I'm ususally a who cares and move on kind of guy but this is just too much. If there is some young musician with a bend towards punk please write a song called Celine Dion's Uterus. Just let me know if you need more workds but it should be easy.

I am so happy for them. 37 weeks is considered "FULL TERM " for twins. My daughter had twins at 37 weeks and they were 6 lb 11 oz and 6 lbs even. Her babies will thrive. Their lungs may need to develope a bit more but they will do just fine.
