'Hangover' Cast Sinks Mel Gibson's Career for Good

We all know
Mel Gibson is
"furious" with producers of 'The Hangover 2' for canning him after the cool kids in the cast, particularly Zach Galifianakis, objected and essentially vetoed his participation. But what is making Mel so mad these days is that he knows the lighthearted cameo was going to be his opening salvo at a legitimate comeback.
An industry insider tells me that Mel "desperately wanted" the role, which he believed would have been a scene-stealer. "It was the perfect part for Mel," my source adds. "Guaranteed to be a blockbuster," even with his sullied name attached.
"Mel saw this role that same way Tom Cruise did with 'Tropic Thunder.' Now it's ruined."
What must be particularly goading to Mel is that he
lost the part to Liam Neeson because of a cast and crew revolt. Director Todd Phillips confirmed this on Thursday, saying his casting of Mel "did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew."
In a statement on Friday, Neeson's spokesman, who also reportedly represents Gibson, confirmed this belief by nudging that Neeson would be joining the actors on the set "pending clearance of cast and crew background check."
"Now that these guys have stood up and said no to working with Mel, anyone that stays silent will look like a coward," one executive tells me. "These are not huge stars. Yes,
Bradley Cooper is doing well, but he's no Brad Pitt or George Clooney. Zach, someone with limited Hollywood power, has opened the floodgates. By making a stand, he has made it impossible for anyone else not to. Making what small chance Mel had of achieving a comeback impossible."
Silent to more, Zach's rep has just told NBC News that he has "no say in who is hired or fired for any roles in the film" and that he was not consulted on the matter.

That being the case, Zach Gallifinobdy better pray he never steps over the line.
This is a bit presumptuous, isn't it? I mean, Gibson himself didn't say he was finished...

Always consider the source. In this case it would be Rob Shuter. If he were a weather forecaster, I would look out the window to see if he's correct.
Gee, I wonder which one of these four numbnuts are gonna see an Oscar win, let alone and actually Oscar nominaton in their lame careers....None! Mel Gisbson can act, write, direct, and produce cirles around these boys with his eyes closed and without breaking a sweat. They should count themselfs lucky for being in the same room with a man like that, let alone be fortunate enough to act a scene with him. And as for the short hairy one, take a good long look at yourself before you have the nerve to judge anyone, let alone Mel Gibson. I know you've done other movies before but I just dont remember you... dont you always play a loser?!!

So Tracy, you're saying that Mel is superior as a human being to these other actors because of his tremendous talent and success and that his behavior, views and personality are irrelevant to the equation?
Mel Gibson is getting EXACTLY what he deserves. He's had many chances to show he's really changed his violent, racist, homophobic (etc, etc) ways and has always failed miserably. Good riddance.
Nico, don't forget he's a misogynistic anti-semite with a severe alcohol problem. I don't wish him harm, but I don't wish him well either.
People who still support this lunatic really make me wonder wtf is wrong with them. Fellow holocaust deniers I guess.
These idiot actors were happy to work with convicted rapist Mike Tyson but feel Gibsons transgressions are unforgivable? Morons!

Mel Gibson at one time was a well respected actor. His recent actions and behavior make him a big risk. He needs to take a break for a couple of years, sort his life out, and then try again.

I realize Mel has been his own worst enemy of late, but no matter what don't count him out. First and foremost he is an excellant actor and writer. These people are no one to judge anyone else's career. We will see where they are in 10 yrs., and where Mr. Gibson is!

Hi, I personally thought the first Hangover was okay to me but it wasn't that great of the movie. Mike Tyson stole the movie the most he was the best thing in that movie. I don't know how the second one would be but I think the cast might had something to do with getting Mel fired (we probably never know what really did happen but the cast must be getting big heads after just having one movie was so popular too) but it is kind of fishy one day he hire and the next day got fired and got replace so quickly too so it so fishy to me. We never know how Mel would of be in that cameo appearance.

I have never ever heard of Mel being unprofessional on a movie set...Yes, personally he has some issues but never known there to be an issue on a set. Have you? let me know? I'm curious.

I was on the set of MAVERICK with Mel Gibson, and wrote a book about the making of the movie. Mel was always wonderful, fun, kind and an absolute delight. We had conversations, of course, having nothing to do with the film He told me that he shouldn't drink because it causes a drastic change in his personality and behavior, and "I wouldn't know him." Well, the REAL Mel Gibson is the brilliant and talented actor, and decent person with whom I shared many enjoyable weeks. I wish people would give him some slack. He is one hell of a talent and doesn't deserve the continual bashing for the symptoms of an illness he is admirably battling.
Not for nothing Burl, but that was 16 years ago and he's drunk a lot of liquor since then. I think he's an aging has-been who can't handle the fact that he's visibly deteriorating and not a box office draw anymore. Alcoholism makes people mean and ugly inside and out.
So, he's an ax murderer? No? A terrorist? No? I've got it; a child molester! No?
Hmmm, he's a guy who has a tendency to speak before he thinks and also has the misfortune to have an ex who is milking it for all its worth.
Yeah, why don't we just refuse to let him use his talent to make a living.
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone......
