Rihanna on Chris Brown Incident: 'I Needed That Wake-Up Call'

It's been more than a year since
Chris Brown pled guilty to assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna. And after keeping relatively quiet about the infamous post-Grammys incident,
Rihanna opens up about the experience in the December issue of Marie Claire UK (via
UsMagazine.com.)
"God has a crazy way of working, and sometimes when stuff happens you feel like, 'What did I do to deserve this?' Why was it backfiring on me?'" the Grammy Award-winning singer tells the magazine. "But I needed that wake-up call in my life. I needed a turning point, and that's what God was giving to me."
But all the press made it even harder, she admits. "All this terrible stuff they say to you, it breaks you down. [But] once you're back on your feet -- if you ever make it back on your feet -- that's the ultimate achievement."
Rihanna also reveals when she knew it was over with Brown. "I remember I was in New York at the Trump Hotel and I woke up and I just knew I was over it. It was a different day. I felt different. I didn't feel lonely. I felt like I wanted to get up and be in the world. That was a great, great feeling."
And the singer doesn't seem to regret her decision at all. "I feel like I smile for real this time. The smiles come from inside, and it exudes in everything I do. People feel my energy is different. When I smile they can tell that it's pure bliss and not just a cover up," Rihanna says.

Her confidence and self-esteem post-Chris Brown have certainly been a joy to witness;the same can't be said, however, for her fashion sense, which seems to have taken a sharp turn for the bizarre-to the point that even Bjork is seething with envy....

Oh get real !!!! there is always two sides to every story Rhianna. The only way your keeping your fake smile in the tabloids is by trashing chris's name again. you were just as much at fault last year now where is your apology to the fans for your part in all of it?
Reply
How do you figure she's just as much at fault as the man who punched and beat her? What, in your opinion, does SHE have to apologize to her fans for? Way to blame the victim and not the perpetrator!!!
She should mail him a check.
now that chris's career is getting top billing again. she wants to ride his coat tails into the news. he paid his price.... while being man enough not to say what she did. she owes teh fans as much as all the rest of the stars that the pop hound and tear their lives apart. everyone has to pay their way in all this. its time for her to do her part. and being a vicitim... that phrase has been worn right out by "victims".
Yea she is did u see them texts she would send him I saw them on BP sometime ago and what she was saying was not something you would think she would I like Chris and I am not saying what he did was right but she played her part and I so over it can they move on all I know is DECUES is Hot..
Oh my CANT YOU JUST GET OVER IT...do you ALWAYS have to get your attention off this subject? Why cant you talk about something else other than Chris Brown..or is that the only way you can get attention. It's over, it's done with, BEEN done with a long time ago if you and other people would JUST stop talking about it. Chris is back on top again and I guess you just feel the need to trash his name again. If you are OVER it then STOP talking about it PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree a year later - let it go! And yes I think she played a major part in the whole mess also. Now I don't condone any man hitting a woman as i dont a woman a man so like most say there is two sides to the story, we all make mistakes and if he has a problem it will show its ugly face again and then we will know that he is an habitual abuser. However she walking around her like she did nothing wrong with her weird self is not flying with me.
thank you for those words!!
She didn't say WORD ONE publicly about the incident for many months afterwards, and I'm sure she would LOVE to stop talking about it but there are still people who bring it up and ask her questions about it! It's made very clear in the article that the interviewer posed questions about the whole mess and she answered them - if you don't want to hear the answers then why are you taking the time to read them?
she needs to move on from the incident, and hopefully she will learn to keep her hands to herself. it takes two to tangle. its not like chris just jumped on her and started beating the hell out of her. she had a part to play in the altication as well. act like a lady you will get treated like one. chris has moved on as well, rhianna must need some attention that shes bringing that back up, people are so over it get a life ri ri

FINALLY !!!! someone has finally said the phrase of all phrases. "she should have kept her hands... and her shoes to herself. what is in someone elses phone messages is private. he wasnt married to her therefore ....on the market.
who cares about a thug and a ho beating up on each other. and where does rihanaho get those awful wigs from?

first of all, i am so so sick of that story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 also, she hit him too, and she started the whole fight. stop dogging on the guys. i, in no way feel chris did anything but the wrong thing, but he has paid his dues.
stop dragging this crap back and making him the wrong one. she was jealous because someone called him on his cell or texted him and she was JEALOUS AND OUT OF CONTROL, AND SHE SLAPPED HIM..MY HOW FAST PEOPLE FORGET THE TRUTH. GET REAL RIHANNA BEFORE YOU SET UP ANOTHER GUY TO DRAG HIM IN THE DITCH LIKE CHRIS. i am so glad he got the help he got, he needed it, and i pray he has a wonderful, and peaceful life from here on. rihanna should have done anger management herself...and jealousy management herself..what a concept.

Rihanna, sing a new song. What happened to you was horrible and you should never forget, but you shouldn't keep harping on it in the public eye. Everyone knows what happened and are happy for how you have grown. However, I do question your lending your voice to the Eminem song which depicts abuse and ends in tying the woman to a bed and setting the house on firs. That just seemed weird after what you went through.

She needed the punch as a wake-up call because she was the one who started getting hitting first. Perhaps the punch taught her to stop acting like a child and start treating other people with respect. I'm glad Chris Brown did it because I doubt many other men had the guts to do it. Now she'll think twice before acting like to another person.

if she is truly over this incident then she would stop talking about it, i know i am over it and i am proud that breezy is trying to get on with his life!! as for riri it is going on almost two years please move on, geeeeeeez!!

It might just be me ... but maybe she's only talking about it because the interviewer asked her about it.

you control the interview, you let them know up front, if their is a question you will not address, this topic is old and if she has moved on with a new man in her life then why has it taken almost two years to reach her turning point!! SMDH
