Park Permit Reveals Details of Stewart/Colbert Rally
Precious little information has been leaked about
Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert's "Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear" in Washington, D.C. this Saturday -- until now. While Comedy Central continues to stay mum about the festivities, the
Christian Science Monitor had the great fortune of acquiring the schedule portion of the National Park Service permit that was issued on Wednesday.
If you're heading to the rally on the National Mall, you'll be treated to a performance by The Roots, assorted comedy routines, quick sets by Mavis Staple, Jeff Tweedy and Sheryl Crow and, of course, appearances and speeches by the 'Daily Show' and 'Colbert Report' stars.

There will also be a Jumbotron, a segment called "The Sanity and Fear Awards" and a reading by 'Law & Order' alum Sam Waterston. Here's the rundown, according to NPS representative Dena Lowe, who treated the CSM with the details:
10:00 AM: The pre-pre-show begins with videos and music on the Jumbotron to keep the gathering crowd friendly and entertained.
Noon: The pre-show starts with a performance from The Roots.
12:40: A comedian (to be determined) warms up the audience.
12:57: A video countdown with a show introduction.
1:00: The show kicks off with the National Anthem by a musical guest (to be announced).
1:05: Mr. Stewart welcomes the crowd.
1:20: Mr. Colbert enters, and two actors – Don Novello and Sam Waterston – perform readings.
1:40: Jeff Tweedy and Mavis Staple perform for 10 minutes, followed by Stewart and Colbert until 2PM.
2:15: Sheryl Crow performs for five minutes, followed by speakers and guests (to be determined).
2:30: Musical guests (also still being lined up) come on.
2:40: The show turns to a pre-taped sequence – "The Sanity and Fear Awards."
The loose-lipped Lowe added that to round out the officially three-hour production, Stewart and Colbert will make final statements. After it's all said and done, "They all hurry up and clean up after themselves."

The day's events are all subject to change without notice, but one thing's for certain: It's gonna be a spectacle, with some estimates saying that roughly 150,000 people are expected. Many outside groups have announced their intention to join in on the festivities, including One Nation March to Rebuild America and End War, NARAL Pro-Choice America and Media Matters.
Stewart
announced the rally during a 'Daily Show' taping on Sept. 16, saying he hopes to encourage angry citizens on both sides of the aisle to take it down a notch, or, in his words, "stop shouting, throwing and drawing Hitler mustaches on people other than Hitler."
In one of their only statements on the rally, Comedy Central promised a face-off between Stewart and Colbert that will be "bigger than Nixon/Kennedy, Ali/Foreman, Aniston/Jolie, 50/Nas, Joe/the Volcano, Alien/Predator, Bunny/Fudd and Ecks/Sever combined."
Stewart has said the purpose of the rally is to give the 80 percent of the country who usually "have s**t to do" a chance to rally ... but for sanity, not rage.
In contrast to Glenn Beck's recent religious-y rally on Washington, where signs were discouraged, the Comedy Central funnyman urges marchers to go to town. He even suggested a couple of ideas, including "I Disagree With You, But I'm Pretty Sure You're Not Hitler" and "Take It Down a Notch, America."

Yes, this rally is really a stupid idea and everyone attending is a moron because, ya know, encouraging civil discourse and keeping an open mind is SO been there, done that. Much better that both sides keep yelling at each other, lobbing random insults I love this , So does My boyfriend .he is almost 11year older than me .i met him via agegapsingl es.c 'om a nice place for seeking age le ss love.which gives you a chance to make your life better and open opportunities for you to meet the attractive young girls and treat you like a king. Maybe you wanna check it out or tell your friends.. Just love it
THIS RALLY SOUNDS DULL ACCORDING TO IT'S PROGRAM SCHEDULE, I THINK STEWART SHOULD HAVE ODUMBO BACK AND THEY CAN ALL DRESS UP AS THE THREE STOOGES FOR HALLOWEEN!
C listers?? Palin and Beck are showing up??... Beck just lost anouther 10 sponsors this week lol
Reply
No he didnt, lying hater.
beck...palin...do the rating go THAT low...ZZZ-!?!
I heard bush was gong to be there...if he can find it on a map!
And cheney said he would be there too, if he could shoot someone..but he wants a kill this time!
bubba clinton will show, if some skank will blow him(no...not hillary!...even he has better taste than that!)
NUT-meg NIT-whitman will also be there and be pushing people around and buying votes, along with fiorina, who will be criticizing everyones hair and dress...and pilosi will make a showing, with a witch like smirk one her conceded fugly face!
And not to be out done the governator, arnie, will show up to say "I'll be bauck" wearing a hitler mustache and goose-stepping in hitler boots!
With that rant, I'd call you minor woody.
First Beck supposedly looses 500 sponsors ... and he's never HAD that many ... then they lower it to 100 sponsors lost ... now they're admitting that the "boycott" didn't work at all. You liberals are laughable .. and yes, I am laughing AT you. And will I be ROFLMAO after the elections. You guys will be crying how we stole the election ... just like last time!
You just keep believing yourself-- no one else does. Glenn Beck will be around long after your losers have hit the road!!
Lose hell! Their standing in line to sponsor him.
Man, it's one thing to be a Republican but a whooooole other store being a Beck lubber lmao
It's good to have such a reliable source. The rest of us have busy lives so it's nice to know someone out there has no life and can provide us with such critical information.
Can you support your statement thatBeck lost 10 sponsors? I have heard the same drivel before but it is usually the daydreams of the writers not reality. If you believe that Beck haslost spopnsors, you probably also believe that Al Gorewon the 2000 election and "Climate Change" means diasaster.
Not surprised about Beck's Sponsors. Can't understand what he is saying half the time. I just don't watch his crap anymore. Take away his blackboard and he would'nt be able to talk!!!
Another weekend of messed up traffic. Hey people, park outside the district and take the metro in.

there is no restoring sanity. these conservatives are so crazy, there is absolutley no talking any sense to them

Yeah Ted, I know but still we don't have to lower ourselves to their level. Best thing to do is let them act like spoiled children who scream, shout, and stomp on the kid's head whom they disagree with and then calmly say okay, shrug our shoulders and walk away. Their spoiled-child behavior will turn off independents and anyone else with half a brain.
IDIOT!!!!
tED kRAMER.........
Maybe you get get a job with one of the Senators that are on their way out of town soon. They'll need that warped sense of reality that YOU seem to have about you!
