Park Permit Reveals Details of Stewart/Colbert Rally
Precious little information has been leaked about
Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert's "Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear" in Washington, D.C. this Saturday -- until now. While Comedy Central continues to stay mum about the festivities, the
Christian Science Monitor had the great fortune of acquiring the schedule portion of the National Park Service permit that was issued on Wednesday.
If you're heading to the rally on the National Mall, you'll be treated to a performance by The Roots, assorted comedy routines, quick sets by Mavis Staple, Jeff Tweedy and Sheryl Crow and, of course, appearances and speeches by the 'Daily Show' and 'Colbert Report' stars.

There will also be a Jumbotron, a segment called "The Sanity and Fear Awards" and a reading by 'Law & Order' alum Sam Waterston. Here's the rundown, according to NPS representative Dena Lowe, who treated the CSM with the details:
10:00 AM: The pre-pre-show begins with videos and music on the Jumbotron to keep the gathering crowd friendly and entertained.
Noon: The pre-show starts with a performance from The Roots.
12:40: A comedian (to be determined) warms up the audience.
12:57: A video countdown with a show introduction.
1:00: The show kicks off with the National Anthem by a musical guest (to be announced).
1:05: Mr. Stewart welcomes the crowd.
1:20: Mr. Colbert enters, and two actors – Don Novello and Sam Waterston – perform readings.
1:40: Jeff Tweedy and Mavis Staple perform for 10 minutes, followed by Stewart and Colbert until 2PM.
2:15: Sheryl Crow performs for five minutes, followed by speakers and guests (to be determined).
2:30: Musical guests (also still being lined up) come on.
2:40: The show turns to a pre-taped sequence – "The Sanity and Fear Awards."
The loose-lipped Lowe added that to round out the officially three-hour production, Stewart and Colbert will make final statements. After it's all said and done, "They all hurry up and clean up after themselves."

The day's events are all subject to change without notice, but one thing's for certain: It's gonna be a spectacle, with some estimates saying that roughly 150,000 people are expected. Many outside groups have announced their intention to join in on the festivities, including One Nation March to Rebuild America and End War, NARAL Pro-Choice America and Media Matters.
Stewart
announced the rally during a 'Daily Show' taping on Sept. 16, saying he hopes to encourage angry citizens on both sides of the aisle to take it down a notch, or, in his words, "stop shouting, throwing and drawing Hitler mustaches on people other than Hitler."
In one of their only statements on the rally, Comedy Central promised a face-off between Stewart and Colbert that will be "bigger than Nixon/Kennedy, Ali/Foreman, Aniston/Jolie, 50/Nas, Joe/the Volcano, Alien/Predator, Bunny/Fudd and Ecks/Sever combined."
Stewart has said the purpose of the rally is to give the 80 percent of the country who usually "have s**t to do" a chance to rally ... but for sanity, not rage.
In contrast to Glenn Beck's recent religious-y rally on Washington, where signs were discouraged, the Comedy Central funnyman urges marchers to go to town. He even suggested a couple of ideas, including "I Disagree With You, But I'm Pretty Sure You're Not Hitler" and "Take It Down a Notch, America."

What would be worse than that is at the real teabaggers riots having Palin and O'Conner talking about real issues and politics, something they know nothing about.

the rally will crystalize the democratic vote and thwart the tea baggers in their disengenuous attempt to grab back power in Washington, D.C.

America will survive a Barack Obama. It is much less likely to survive this multitude of fools who made him their president.

Stoner Fest will offer nothing productive. Glenn Beck's rally at least was well intentioned, and......there was NO trash left behind. There will be mounds of trash left behind like every other liberal get together. Just an ego boost to Colbert (who would not have a job if not for Bill O'Reilly). Just a wasted day...............

Right....there was no trash left behind at the Beck Rally....it all got back on the bus....lol
There are two realities-what the tea baggers think is reality and what sane people think is reality. The two camps truly are living in different paradigms. How can discourse occur? We're all subjugated by big business. The anger should be directed at big business and instead we're focusing on each other. The ultra rich just keep getting more rich and more powerful and we snipe at each other. It's a bad deal for all but a select few and the select few laugh all the way to the banks they run. We're all idiots.

Let's see...mmmm one incident of conseratives useing violence on someone and that proves the right is mean and violent. Meanwhile the left shoots at windows, riots, burns autos, flys a plane into a building,SEIU people beat and kick a black conserative, grab kids by the neck, etc and they are the peaceful ones. Yes that's liberal logic for you. It makes the same amount of sense that Obama's policies do. NONE!

I feel like becks little 'party' on the mall was a lot less racist then the tea party is. They have people like Sharon Angle yelling DESTROY SOCIAL SECURITY, DESTROY MEDICARE, PRIVATIZE PRISONS, these are all institutions that the government sponsers but stupid tea partyers are also taking over the republican party of Regan I love. Seriously Republicans kick these tea partyers OUT. As for the 'leftist tea party' there will never be democrats that will say steal from everybody and give to the homeless. If there is a leftist tea party that is what it would sound like not this Glenn Beckish copy

Just another democratic rally that the public will pick up the tab to clean up after, why cant they keep the area clean like the Beck and Tea Party rallies

These phonies couldn't hold up traffic, much less a rally. What hypocritical copycats! Beck and Palin were terrific. Stewart and Colbert are only the secular progressive idiots we expect out of these numskulls.
Reply
Wow, Beck and Palin are both phonies cashing in on dummies like you who follow. By the way, there were many rallies held in Washington prior to these two showing up or hasn't Beck taught you that part of history yet.
What time is the BIG "C" Joy Behar making an appearance? I want to be there to throw tomatos and rotten eggs. Maybe she can bring her friend Woopie. These two can sure hand it out but obviously can't take the heat.
