LeAnn Rimes Responds to Shape Magazine Cover Controversy

One day after news broke that the editor-in-chief of Shape Magazine called
LeAnn Rimes' October cover "
a terrible mistake," the singer responded via her
Twitter page.
On Thursday, it was reported that editor-in-chief Valerie Latona sent an email to subscribers apologizing for featuring LeAnn Rimes on the cover.
"You are all in good company... as you all agree Shape has made a terrible mistake in putting LeAnn Rimes on the cover," the editor wrote in the email. "Please know that our putting her on the cover was not meant to put a husband-stealer on a pedestal-but to show (through her story)... "
The 28-year-old singer wasted no time in responding,
Tweeting, "Just so all my fans know, I'm getting to the bottom of this. It's the first I've heard of this. Shape is throwing me a party next week as a thank you and a congrats for being on their cover for the third time. I find this very contradictory." Rimes then Tweeted a photo of the invite to the event.
Later in the day, Rimes Tweeted a link to a
new statement from editor-in-chief Latona. The editor wrote about her "personal letter" to subscribers, saying it was taken out of context. She also reveals only 40 out of 6 million subscribers complained about the Rimes cover. Regardless, she said she wanted to write a short note to those unhappy with the content.
"I don't want anyone to be unhappy--so I took the time to write a personal note to them, apologizing for not having someone on the cover they wanted to see and hoping to do right by them the next time. (I do this many times for all cover stars and you really can't ever please everyone all the time,)" she wrote.
Latona also says she stands behind her decision to use Rimes on the cover: "The bottom line is this: I stand by the fact that LeAnn's story is compelling--and her courage and strength in the face of so much adversity is compelling. That is why I put her on the cover of Shape for what is now the third time."

I can be disgusted with her behavior. I can not purchase the magazine. But, I thought no one cared what people did "in private". I thought we were suppose to separate the public person from their private actions. Think Eliot Spitzer, Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, etc. I guess we are ignoring character these days, right?

Well said Katydid!! It is none of the public's business what these entertainers do in their private lives.
But it's not about that! It's about how could they put someone who is SO freaking UGLY on their cover?! Yes, her soul and her life are hideously skanky and ugly, too, but so is Angelina Jolie's... The difference: Angelina's face is not painfully ugly, so mag covers of her don't offend the senses!!
Ashleigh you have a problem. Maybe jealousy? Not everyone finds her ugly. People who are ugly themselves are obsessed with calling others ugly.
I don't think she is ugly at all. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. She is no Beyonce or Charlize but she is not ugly.
Most men are dogs. They are always sniffing and the women they are chasing let them sniff. Sad how the morals of this country has went down.

The morals in this country have not gone down, they are just more public now.
woof woof..I agree..I think society as a whole stinks..I pitty our youth..everything revolves around music & hollywood...sad, very sad...
I am 71 and believe me it has always been this way. You just hear about it more because of the Internet and TV.
I watch my neighbors cavorting with each other and most have changed partners at least three times in as many years. If you leave the curtains open you can see them crossing the street for a visit while the other partners are working. Our neighborhood has several men who have never worked a day in the last 20 years. You can see women sneaking into their homes while their wives work. I have been married 55 years today. I have lived in almost every state in the US and some foreign countries. It is the same everywhere.
She looks nice, but personally, I think she would be drop dead gorgeous if she had breast implants. Love the ladies with the big boobies!

I'll bet more than one woman has said you'd be more attractive with some enhancement yourself, buddy.
Why don't you get breast implants? Than you can play with yourself all you want. Loser!
A boob job would take care of things? Really? Would that fix her ugly face, the ugliest I've ever seen? Would that fix her even uglier soul? No, even her soul isn't as ugly as her unfortunate face is!
Wow, Barbara - interesting post, girl. Do you do anything else except stand around looking out your windows at your neighbors? You know everyone's work schedule and who's doing who in your tacky little neighborhood? You sound like nothing more than a nosy old bat.
Or maybe Barbara is speaking the truth, Danya. People haven't changed. They've always slept around. They are just more open and accepting of it now. I'm not saying it's right, but it's how it is.
If magazines can only put faithful celebrities on their covers, they're gonna run out of options by 2011......

Or more likely by November 15th, 2010. :)

If it was your husband, you would care. I agree with the alleged "40" readers who didn't want her on the cover (gotta be wayyyyyy more readers than that!)......Nobody wants to see a homewrecker on the cover of a magazine, whether it be her, him, or whoever. Don't back pedal, SHAPE, stand up for what is right like you did in the first place!

No one a problem with Angelina Jolie on the cover of EVERY magazine after she "stole" Brad Pitt. He was a married man when they met.
