LeAnn Rimes Responds to Shape Magazine Cover Controversy

One day after news broke that the editor-in-chief of Shape Magazine called LeAnn Rimes' October cover "a terrible mistake," the singer responded via her Twitter page.

On Thursday, it was reported that editor-in-chief Valerie Latona sent an email to subscribers apologizing for featuring LeAnn Rimes on the cover.

"You are all in good company... as you all agree Shape has made a terrible mistake in putting LeAnn Rimes on the cover," the editor wrote in the email. "Please know that our putting her on the cover was not meant to put a husband-stealer on a pedestal-but to show (through her story)... "

The 28-year-old singer wasted no time in responding, Tweeting, "Just so all my fans know, I'm getting to the bottom of this. It's the first I've heard of this. Shape is throwing me a party next week as a thank you and a congrats for being on their cover for the third time. I find this very contradictory." Rimes then Tweeted a photo of the invite to the event.

Later in the day, Rimes Tweeted a link to a new statement from editor-in-chief Latona. The editor wrote about her "personal letter" to subscribers, saying it was taken out of context. She also reveals only 40 out of 6 million subscribers complained about the Rimes cover. Regardless, she said she wanted to write a short note to those unhappy with the content.

"I don't want anyone to be unhappy--so I took the time to write a personal note to them, apologizing for not having someone on the cover they wanted to see and hoping to do right by them the next time. (I do this many times for all cover stars and you really can't ever please everyone all the time,)" she wrote.

Latona also says she stands behind her decision to use Rimes on the cover: "The bottom line is this: I stand by the fact that LeAnn's story is compelling--and her courage and strength in the face of so much adversity is compelling. That is why I put her on the cover of Shape for what is now the third time."

hey ts -- yes, Angelina is disgusting as a human being, a freak really and a hypocrite... But, she does not have an ugly face! LeAnn has GOT to be the ugliest creature to ever have walked the Earth, and seeing THAT face on ANY magazine cover offends the senses like nothing else!! Her life and her soul is every bit as disgusting as Angelina's, but, fair or not, it's her ugly face that offends, while Angelina's face does not... It doesn't mean people aren't offended by Angie's personhood, they're just not that offended by her face... (Her body is anorexic, but her face is inoffensive -- Rimes just can't say that at all about her hideously offensive ugly face!) -- THAT'S the difference...

We put drug dealers,convicts,animal abusers and other criminals all over magazine covers and they get praised for a great photo shoot. Though i dont agree with what she did i do believe she looks dam good and deserves everything she can get. Everyone makes mistakes that they have to live with.

I could have sworn this was 2010 and not 1910? It is not possible to "steal" a husband. Having a penis may cause them some difficulty in thinking at times but at the end of the day they (men) are living breathing thinking human beings with the ability to make a choice of where they want to go. They aren't an ashtray or a hotel towel that finds himself buried in the latest trendy bag and smuggled out of a venue. C'mon people if it takes two. Sometimes even 3.

anyone else notice that the magazine is called shape and le ann is in great shape so if thats what the story inside is about then why does it matter who or what she does no matter what she does its still not as bad as lindsey lohan still having a drivers license or brittney spears, charlie sheen, and not to mention all those sports players who have run over people while driving drunk or high ... and to be fair just anyone in general who has more then 3 dwi's and still can drive so after all that who cares what shes done

Lee Ann can twitter whatever she wants but I am glad Shape Magazine addressed the issue that many of their readers were not happy with Lee Ann on the cover. There are many other readers of this magazine who are not subscribers who were repulsed by this person being on the cover. Are we to feel sorry for she and her actor lover, that much of the public didn't pat them on the back (so to speak) for leaving their marriages to set up house with one another? Their spouses were devastated. Even if they had problems in their own marriages before they met one another, getting into a relationship while still married to other people is definitely cheating. So yes, I am glad Shape apologized to it's readers. I will buy other issues by Shape but will skip this one. She is no inspiration to anyone except those who think you don't have to work on keeping a marriage together when things get tough.

This woman is many, many things. The least of them being a so called "husband stealer". Why should this one moment define who she is? She has an amazing story, great things and bad things. This magazine is supposed to be about real women. How boring to read about Miss Polly Perfect.

Sorry but actions have consequences. There were kids involved and both of them didn't care about anything but themselves. Hard to ignore when they cavorted around. Whatever, I have the right to not like their actions. Just as they have the right to not care. Just feel sorry for the kids.

No, her husband is not gay!! (Although since LeAnn is so ugly and manly looking, I can understand the confusion)... But she didn't leave him because of any gay issue, she left him because she was caught cheating on him with a married man! Her husband had SOME pride and they had to end the relationship -- there's not a lot of room for a man to just sit there while his wife is openly cheating on him with a married man, so their marriage ended... Because of her, not because of him...
