LeAnn Rimes Responds to Shape Magazine Cover Controversy

One day after news broke that the editor-in-chief of Shape Magazine called LeAnn Rimes' October cover "a terrible mistake," the singer responded via her Twitter page.

On Thursday, it was reported that editor-in-chief Valerie Latona sent an email to subscribers apologizing for featuring LeAnn Rimes on the cover.

"You are all in good company... as you all agree Shape has made a terrible mistake in putting LeAnn Rimes on the cover," the editor wrote in the email. "Please know that our putting her on the cover was not meant to put a husband-stealer on a pedestal-but to show (through her story)... "

The 28-year-old singer wasted no time in responding, Tweeting, "Just so all my fans know, I'm getting to the bottom of this. It's the first I've heard of this. Shape is throwing me a party next week as a thank you and a congrats for being on their cover for the third time. I find this very contradictory." Rimes then Tweeted a photo of the invite to the event.

Later in the day, Rimes Tweeted a link to a new statement from editor-in-chief Latona. The editor wrote about her "personal letter" to subscribers, saying it was taken out of context. She also reveals only 40 out of 6 million subscribers complained about the Rimes cover. Regardless, she said she wanted to write a short note to those unhappy with the content.

"I don't want anyone to be unhappy--so I took the time to write a personal note to them, apologizing for not having someone on the cover they wanted to see and hoping to do right by them the next time. (I do this many times for all cover stars and you really can't ever please everyone all the time,)" she wrote.

Latona also says she stands behind her decision to use Rimes on the cover: "The bottom line is this: I stand by the fact that LeAnn's story is compelling--and her courage and strength in the face of so much adversity is compelling. That is why I put her on the cover of Shape for what is now the third time."

We are so quick to judge others when in fact we have our own imperfections. That's what makes us human. Haven't we all made mistakes in our lives that we aren't proud of? I know I have, so I won't cast any stones here. I also think the human body is beautiful in it's natural form, without all the plastic surgery and enhancements. I think her cover picture was very flattering. I wish I looked half as good as her. Physically, she looks like she takes good care of herself, that qualifies her for a cover on shape magazine?

"Husband stealer?????" None can be "stolen" first, but who cares what this talented singer does in private? Think Mick Jagger, Robert Downey, Angelina, Brad Pitt and the list goes on and on. This is so unfair to Leann. And she is gorgeous, with her own personally distinctive features that keep her from looking like every other Hollywood same-same blonde. As for her breast size, I am positive that every loser guy out there would be enlarging a particular part if it were easily available.....

If you remember her in her younger years she looks alot like her father and isn't a pretty picture either. She's not pretty, she's just plain and her body shouldn't be on any magazine promoting body images. Eddie downgraded when he left his wife.

Why does anyone care? It is none of our business what happened in her private live. There is no one on here that knows what happened in her marriage. We cannot judge her for what happened because we dont know why it happened. I bought the issue and the article was great. There are so many celebrities that turn to drugs and alcohol and here is someone who turned to excercise. It was great to read. Excercise instead of rehab. Great article. Shape shouldnt of sent out letters of apology. People dont like it, dont read it.

Ashleigh, wow hate much? So, since you feel she shouldn't be on the cover a magazine consider her "flat chested" and "a pig of a person, with a face to match". Well, let me point out that I didn't see your face on the cover of a magazine. And, none of us know how YOUR body is put together. What do YOU look like? I can guess not even close to looking as good as she does. Generally those that oppose a PIC or a person like this so vehemently tend to be the most jealous. Could this be you?

I think LeAnn should just go away and shut up for a while and stop pushing it down our throats that yes she's divorced from her husband and yes she has a new man. Who cares anyway? Ultimately she did Eddie's wife a favor cuz I'm sure LeAnn wasn't the first and she will not be the last, ya hear that LeAnn. If he did it with ya he'll do it to ya so look out.

lee ann's cover was beautiful and tastefully done. what has her private life got to do with it. the jerk had no business apologizing. how many covers do you think charlie sheen is going to be on and he didn't "steal" anyones husband. it was much worse. So because a few people griped about her being on a magazine cover the editor had to step in and actually respond ? How weak. What about all the other alleged "husband stealers" like Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts, Alicia Keys ? Why weren't all you people protesting when they were making the rounds for Salt, Eat Pray Love and Alicia's latest album ? All of those griping about Leeann need to really take a look in the mirror and learn how to pick and chose better battles. No one person can STEAL someone else's spouse. They may have taken vows, but they're not property and obviously something was wrong enough in the relationship that made the man leave. Those of you griping better check your OWN relationships. Bet they're no where near as happy as you convince yourself they are. Hypocrites.

If you're going to stand by your decision to have her on the cover, why apologize for it? If every husband stealer (huh?) was outlawed from making money or public appearances, we would have slim pickins. And you cannot "steal" a husband. The husband was a willing participant, so stop beating the hell out of the women who are involved in these shennanigans. You people act like a man is a zombie and some floozie put a spell on him. Her BR is not being banned from films!
