Charlie Sheen Files for Divorce, Seeks Joint Custody

Charlie Sheen reportedly is filing for divorce from Brooke Mueller

After a wild weekend in New York, Charlie Sheen filed to end his marriage to his estranged wife Brooke Mueller Monday and stated in documents that the couple separated the same day as a Christmas 2009 altercation that led to assault charges against the veteran actor.

Sheen cited irreconcilable differences for the divorce and indicated in court filings in Los Angeles that the couple have a prenuptial agreement. He is also seeking joint physical and legal custody of their 1 1/2-year-old twin boys, Bob and Max, but is asking a judge not to award his wife any spousal support. In a separate divorce filing, Mueller seeks primary physical custody of the boys with visitation for Sheen.

The pair, who have been living apart since April, signed divorce agreement papers back in May but never filed the documents in court. The duo, who married in 2008, made headlines on Christmas day when Sheen was arrested on domestic violence charges in Aspen, Colorado. He allegedly assaulted Mueller and threatened her with a knife. The 'Two and a Half Men' star spent part of Christmas in an Aspen jail cell. The actor was charged with felony menacing, misdemeanor assault and misdemeanor criminal mischief.

Sheen and Mueller have both since entered rehab in separate programs.

Oddly enough, Mueller recently stood by Sheen's side following his alleged drunken, naked, hotel-trashing outburst in New York. "Charlie is a survivor. He knows how to handle himself," she told Extra. "You know how things get blown out of proportion," she said.

@Ron: It has been a wee bit since I was 17 (I'm almost 43 now) but when I was that age, I would have been mortified to act like he does now. Even at 17 I knew much better and had a lot more respect for both myself and others. His little tantrums remind me more of a toddler in an adult's body. I seriously do think he has narcissistic personality discorder (if I have that spelled correctly).

I agree Ron. CBS should have cancelled this show a LONG time ago. It's really getting long in the tooth and no longer funny anymore. Time for all the actors to move on to other projects.

Who am I not surprise, this guy doesn't need a wife, he needs a drug rehab 6 month stay. I for one will not be surprise to hear that he has OD, been in a car accident and hurt very badly, between him and Lindsey Lohan it's just a matter of time and the wrong situation, sounds harsh, but true.

Angie, you need to go back to school. If you are going to write a blog go back and proof read it please. Charlie is Charlie, she knew when she married him what she was getting. It also said that both of them were in rehab. It takes two.
