Ricky Martin Felt 'Numb' and Cried 'Like a Baby' After Coming Out

After having children, Ricky Martin decided he couldn't live a lie any longer and decided to tell the world his biggest secret--he is gay. And in an interview with Oprah Winfrey airing tomorrow on her show, he confessed it wasn't easy.

"When I realized, okay, I just pressed send, whoo... I was alone," the international singer said to the talk show host (via PEOPLE.) "I was in my studio alone for a minute. My assistant walked in and I just started crying like a little baby. I started crying." Martin admits he felt "numb" but then relieved after sharing the news with the world.

Martin credits his 2-year-old twins born via surrogate with helping him realize he needed to be totally open about his sexuality.

"I couldn't take it anymore. It was too painful. But I guess the most important thing is my children... When I was holding them in my arms I was like, 'What, am I gonna teach them how to lie?' Whoa, that is my blessing right there. Then, when I was holding my children I said, 'Okay, it's time to tell the world.'"

The 'Livin' La Vida Loca' singer is releasing his memoir 'Me' on November 2. In it, Martin opens up about everything from his experiences in Menudo to his sexuality and fatherhood.

"From the moment I wrote the first phrase, I was sure the book was the tool that was going to help me free myself from things I was carrying within me for a long time. Things that were too heavy for me to keep inside. Writing this account of my life, I got very close to my truth. And this is something worth celebrating," he said (via CNN.)

I think it's kind of funny... cause the only person who was in any sort of denial about his sexuality was HIM. Everyone else in the world already knew!!! He was living in a bubble if he thought he was keeping a big secret from the world.

Except he had a few albums worth of hits toured worldwide made many millions of dollars for himself and those close to him. Sure you are gay and jealous. You are likely one of those skank gays that hang out in the alleys charging 2 bucks for a reach around because even the drunk bums don't want to look at you. If being gay is supposed to be so "normal," then shouldn't he have said it like 'business as usual'? Apparently, he felt some degree of shame which means gay is not natural. Go with your gut instinct and keep your chosen fetishes to yourself.

I agree. He needs to move on. Me and my friends and family already knew he was gay the first time he started entertaining. Im sure that millions knew also. We really dont care. We enjoyed his entertaining, he works hard to help orphans all over the world, so nothing else matters.

Why do people who tell their stories as a matter of therapy think they have to sell it in order for that therapy to work?

they are sharing their stories to help others dealing with the same issues. Maybe if just one kid or anyone that hears his story that is dealing with the same issues, can see that just being who you are and standing up to ignorant judgementle people. And seeing that they are ok, can maybe save someones life. Especially with the teen suicides we've been seeing lately. The ones that take issue with gay/lesbians are usually hiding their own feelings about the same sex.
