Cher on Chaz: 'She's a Very Smart Girl -- Boy!'

It's taking Cher some time to get used to having a son named Chaz Bono, rather than a daughter named Chastity. In the new
Vanity Fair, the singing icon talks candidly about her first born child's gender-reassignment surgery last year, and why it's been hard wrapping her head around it.
"If I woke up tomorrow in a guy's body, I would just kick and scream and cry and f****ing rob a bank, because I cannot see myself as anything but who I am -- a girl. I would not take it as well as Chaz has. I couldn't imagine it," she says.
Cher, who has aired her confusion about Chaz's choice before, even mixes up his gender in casual conversations. "Well, she's a very smart girl -- boy! This is where I get into trouble. My pronouns are f***ed. I still don't remember to call her 'him,'" she admits.

When asked whether her children are still angry with her, Cher told VF, "I think Chaz is pretty much finished with it, and I think Elijah [her son with Gregg Allman] has a little longer to go, but they both really love me a lot. But it's hard."
Chaz's transformation became official, in a legal sense, back in May when a judge granted the 41-year-old activist's request to change his name from Chastity to Chaz and to switch his gender identification to male.
In June 2009, Cher offered her support for Chaz, saying that she respects "the courage it takes to go through this transition in the glare of public scrutiny, and although I may not understand, I will strive to be understanding."

How sad every time I see this poor disabled adult female I get over whelmed with sadness...They say the sins of the parents will fall on the children....I know a lie when I see it...The devil is busy & a liar deceiver....

Disabled? ha. You're probably just old and don't understand these things that are more accepted these days.
Too much liberal confusion for this old dude.

Angelina Holie and Brad have one of these in the making. This is what happen's when a child is screwed up by their parent's, they do not know who the hell they are. She was born a woman and will alway's be a woman. God does not make mistakes. We do. The worst mistake this country makes is clapping and praising these people for being gay and having sex changes. They are sick and need psychiatric help in a bad way.

God should strike you dead right now.
She got it right the first time. She's still a woman, just a mutilated one.

Yup.....well said.
Cher has been a great mother. I feel the same as Cher does about this situation. After having a daughter all of these years, and now having to call her, he, is tough. This is obviously Chas's choice, and his life to live, I wish he and Cher all the very best.

It doesn't matter that Chasity changed her sex, her mother will always remember her as a little girl. You cannot erase those memories. I kinda feel sorry for Cher, because as supportive as she appears to be, I am sure she is saddened by this transformation.

I feel sad for Chaz/Chastity. I think she was sexually abused as a child since her parents were absent so much. I hope she'll find peace in her life, no matter what she does to herself surgically.

Brilliant!
Bottom line is who are we to judge what is going on in someones head? I an sure is was hard for both of them, (Cher&her child)I don't think this was a over night decision. What ever you have to do to be happy with yourself. That is good mental health.

I remember watching Soney&Cher's TV show where they would bring Chastie out at the end. She was adroable but who would know at that time...she was Gay. I don't know what to say, about it except to each their own.

I applaud Cher for standing by her daughter's choice. Children of any age need to know their parents are on their side even if they don't agree or understand.

My heart goes out to Cher. She is a talented and beautiful woman. I can't imagine what this has done to her. Every mother dreams of her daughter having all the things that she herself was denied. Cher did so much to empower women and to give them a voice. Now this. Shameful.

Even though she had her breasts removed and her clitorus turned into a penis, her DNA is still female.
Men who have penis turned into a vagina, testicles removed, breast implants, facial reconstruction and adam's apple shaved still have male DNA
